Good morning all.

Question about fragging. I have a neon green toadstool and a Japanese Toadstool.

they are getting too tall for my 32g Biocube. Can I cut the tops off and leave the stock the size I want? A fellow reefer/buddy of mine had a tank crash. Was thinking of fragging up the heads and giving him some nice size frags.

Thanks!

I believe the heads will grow and the stocks will die if you do that. I haven't tried personally but there was a thread just recently where the poster superglued the stock in place. The coral didn't like that and bailed it's own head which appeared fine and the stock looked melty.

Go about halfway down stalk, cut it off and reglue. Remove old stock from rocks.

Thanks all! Got it, so only frags from the head of leathers will grow new coral. Thanks for answering my question.

Um... no I have cut the heads off and the stalk grows into a new head :) Pretty much any piece of tissue can grow into a new toadstool.

Ok so back to my original question. If I cut it half way down. It will grow a new head at the height I want? Is there anything I can do to ensure success?

Cutting them turns into new heads and stems.

You can cut it however you like. I gave my friend my neon green toadstool and I had a sliver of it still stuck to a rock and it is now growing a new top. They're pretty resilient from my experience.
