Hello everyone, my tank just finished cycling. Nitrite 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrate <10. I was wondering if I can get a cleanup crew, but I have no algae so then I ask myself should I get a fish? Any advice?

I was a little "iffy" because I heard that some snails are sensitive? Will they be able to survive without algae aka living off of bacteria?
I say that if for no other reason than they're less bio load (shock on system) and to be honest I feel slightly less bad if they die. The best approach from an ethical standpoint may be to "ghost feed."

If you don't have much algae, maybe start with some Nassarius snails and hermits. When you ghost-feed, they'll be happy to pick up anything that lands on the sand or the rock. Then, as your algaes come in, pick up the snails that feed on those algaes.

Most have it backwards, without algae or left over food to eat, there is no need for a cuc. Without food they will just die and pollute your tank. I add my cuc slowly as needed. 1st you usually get the brown diatoms, cerith snails will clean that right up. Then when other algae shows up I add and/or astreas and turbos, a few at a time as needed. Once I start adding fish and start feeding, I'll add hermits and nassarius snails, they'll eat the left over food. Don't add per gallon, only add enough ton help you clean, and make sure the tank is producing enough food for them. I have a tank with triggers and an eel and no cuc at all, I run a good size refugium and skimmer and the tank is spotless. So really a cuc is just there to help, it's really not even necessary. Add your fish and enjoy.
