Ok, ran into my first problem. The flow from the return is blowing so hard into the front glass that it is blowing the sand straight out. Salinity is at 32. Just added more to bring it up to 35 so that is what the white stuff is in front of the sand.

Looks like I will be ordering some locline and a Y to direct the flow behind the rockwork.

Ok, So I ordered everything from Vivid Creative Aquatics. I could have made a diy but I really like their drop adapter that will place the loc line lower in the water.

Yes, It places the loc line lower into the water. For some reason red sea placed the return nozzle at the surface. You can twist it down slightly but I think it still needs to be lower. So the adapter solves that problem.

So now it's time to set up the lighting. This has honestly been my biggest struggle so far. Everytime I think I know what I want to go with I change my mind.

So I started out with three Radion XR30w lights and then changed my mind. So two of them have been sold already and I still have the other one for sale.

Then I decided I wanted to go to a hybrid t5/led light fixture. Well they are either priced redicoulsly high $2000+ or they just look cheap.

Ultimately I have just decided to build a canopy and add a t5 retrofit kit with leds. I'm going for something like they use on the BRS 160 tank. Thanks @Ryanbrs for all the awesome videos. They have been a tremendous help and BRS is an awesome company. They have helped me with any questions I've had over the phone and I highly recommend them.

After some measuring and a few cuts with my skill saw. This is what I ended up with. Added wood filler to cover the screw heads and will sand and prime tomorrow. Then it is going to be painted white to match the stand.

Can’t wait to see more! I’m considering a diy canopy with t5/led hybrid too. I’ll be getting my Reefer 350 soon and these are great ideas.

Looks like a great build so far!

I'm digging the idea of building the floating canopy. I purchased Radions for mine as I'll admit I've been an Ecotech fanboy for some time. I have my tank in my living room and the Gen4s lenses throw so much light out from below the body of the fixture that they hot spot really badly on the television. Sure, it's my fault for putting a tank in my living room but it annoys the heck out of me. I'm hoping the the new diffusers will solve this issue. If not I've be thinking about making a floating canopy like BRS as well.

Smart move replacing the float valve. The one supplied has already clogged up/stopped working on me twice!

Where did you order the lid from? I need to jump on that!

I ordered the lid from saltwateraquarium.com. They posted on a thread I had asking when they would be available in the U.S. Unfortunately they only had 12 in stock and are now sold out. BRS also posted they would have some in stock this week. You need to order the day they become available.

I have used the float valve I have now on my last tank for six months without a single issue. BRS also sells them.
