I opened a low voltage DC returnpump a few days ago and saw that it was a long ceramic axis going through a ceramic busching with grease to stop the water from sipping through.
In my opinion this will not last long so now I want to know:
Are there anyone that has been using a Boyu or similar DC pump for more than 2 years.
Are there anyone that has had a such pump broken down?

As all equipment in this hobby different pump models will last more or less and most of the time although not necessarily true price range is a good indicator.
I haven't been very pleased of most of my Boyu purchases when u compare them to other brands like Eheim Tunze .... Going back To DC pumps some will fail fast but others will last you a long time and there are a lot of reviews that can help or reading build threads which is a good indicator of equipment lasting long term or not and results achieved. An Abyzz DC pump will last you a lifetime I'd say and is backed up by a serious support and warranty but comes with a hefty price tag.

I have been using DC pumps since they first emerged on the reefing market....never had a problem with any of them that wasn't my fault (not cleaning often enough) I ran a DC Jebao since they were released and have not had `(2 to 2 1/2 years ago) any issues what so ever. I have also been trying out others along the way for other set-ups including the one that came with my reef octopus skimmer....love them so far. Clean them well once every other month and you should be good....I suspect all the ones on the market are being produced by the same vendor or 2 in China as they all seem to look really similar.

@maroun.c Do you know how the axis are going from the Abyzz motor to the pump house? Is it an O- ring or a ceramic bushing?
The Boyu pumps that has failed - do you know if had to do whith water in the motor or an electronic fault?

I bought 2 of the Waveline models back around 2 to 2.5 years ago. Once died on my after about 1 year of use. Simply just stopped. I took it apart and cleaned it. It would not turn on again.

The 2nd one lasted quite longer over 2 years. And it failed on my just last night. Same problem as the first one. Luckily for me, I was home both times. Thankfully I had a spare Reef Octopus DC 5500 pump. I had that for a build I was planning to do that never launched. Been meaning to sell it for the last 6 months. Last night it paid off to be a procrastinator.

I love the DC pumps for the low wattage and the easy of adjusting flow. But it's hard to justify it when I read of so many failures.

If I do try another DC pump I'll probably give the new Ecotech one a shot. If not I'll go with the Fluval pumps.
