Part of my problem keeping corals preciously was the fact I messed with the tank tooo much. This time taking a step back, glass is dirty, socks need to be swapped and bubble scrubbing 5 minutes twice a day and 10 minutes twice a day.

If you haven’t heard already Dr Fosters And Smith is closing the online store. I didn’t shop there much but I hate to see jobs go away like this.

Moved the hammers together. Still want a few more hammers/frogspawns. I think I like them over torches!

Made up about 8 gallons of water today, I’m usually bad about not keeping track of how many 1/2 cups of salt. Today I measured with a scale, let’s see if this helps me measure salt!

how did you do it before?

Measure salinity when I thought it was right. Then adjust be adding more salt or more water until it was where I wanted it. Truth it that takes to long, time to come up with a smooth system. Sure it may be off some depending on water in container. But it will be close. 35.2 oz should get me close to where I need to be with 8ish gallons of water.

I understand. I do it from the beginning with one scale. In my water tank for 30 l /8 g I weigh 1,2kg/2,65lb salt and than stirr with a pump. you can be lazy, just not stupid: D: D

then check with refractometer and give it to him

I dump cups of salt into my reservoir and I always have the number 7 in my head which gets me very close around 32ppt but never over. I actually keep my system at 36ppt. I guess if i actually measured how much water I use for a water change, a scale would be great. I just take water out of the tank and put water back in. Lol.

I'm sure I will go back to my old ways! haha

I like hammers and frogspawn better than torches as well. You can group them a lot closer together and not worry about them killing other euphyllias.

I've had a better success rate with Hammers, I've had a few frogspawns and they were okay for awhile then slowly drifted away. Torches have also been hit or miss, I still like torch corals but the extension they can have seems dangerous in a small tank like mine!

Right! That was always my thought process, 5 cups was always the number in my head. I would then have to adjust. My water changes vary, I was doing 4-5 gallons then I started doing 8-10 gallon water changes. The bigger water changes haven't shown any negative effects so I continued doing them!

I always mix 10g at a whack. 10g of water is just over the highest plastic indentation inside the Brute. 5 cups of Red Sea Blue was perfect every time. I havent checked it in forever it was so consistent. Now that i think of it though I did change salt mix and should probably double check that! ;Nailbiting

It’s been a solid start to the year. For once I’ve spent more money on livestock VS equipment!

I would like to try out a deltec skimmer and Tunze pumps. Maybe later this year after the tank is stocked! Haha

Finnex titanium heaters! Plastic shield comes off immediately, not sure when I’ll use these. I’m currently running 2 eheim jager heaters, nothing wrong with them and they are working just fine!

I run these in my tank

I've wanted to try them out for awhile, ironically enough the BRS video today was about our tank temps and how often heaters should be replaced. Granted I run my heaters through the apex the fact I just got new heaters and the video they did today may be a sign! haha
