I'm trying to dial in Elementz. The calcium and or the magnesium has been getting to high and the directions say check your test kit?
I think I should keep dosing 42ml per day and dose extra 12ml of soda ash to keep at 8DKH.
What do you guys think?
If I keep the DKH up to 8 with just elementz the Ca & Mg drift to high.

Numbers look fine to me I'd say just keep focusing on the DKH. I'm finding that I need to supplement the mg a little or it goes down to 1200 ish. interesting to hear from the triton experts though.

The numbers do look good Gene. Some people run their dkh at 7.8 or so to keep the Ca and Mg in the sweet spot. The Base Elementz are designed to run best on mature reefs with good coral diversity which helps stabilize things even further. The guys in the UK certainly do have more experience and we do recommend getting their opinion as well like it looks like you have! If you find a certain element running a little low you can supplement that by dosing just that particular item (calcium, magnesium, etc) You are certainly on the right path though

I am finding this too. I suspect in my case it may be due to rapid coralline growth on my dry rock (as coralline uses much more magnesium then most other calcifying organisms) and/or my gorgonians. Do you have gorgs or lots of coralline growing?

It's worth noting that in my experience/research magnesium in the range of 1300-1450 is safe. Higher may also be safe and anecdotal evidence says that some corals may like it higher (Hawaiian Palys perhaps).

Lastly, comparing my red sea test kit to Triton: Calcium seems to read 40ppm low (i.e.: Red Sea 400, Triton 440), and Magnesium is dead on. I take the middle value between first change and full color change. This all may be just errors as the sample size is 1 or 2 lol. But it may be worth the effort to run 2-3 rounds of tests on the same water sample you send to Triton and compare the differences.

I have no gorg's. Lots of monti and tons of coraline. It grows like crazy on my glass in my frag tank and sump both on this system. Coraline has also completely covered my dual overflows and just about all my LR as well.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
