Just for the record I’ve had a few pm’s about which Dino’s I had…. Ummmmmmm idk haha! This was before the microscopes and a Dino guide or really any info on them! It did work on my tank back then and cleared them up rather fast.. before my current tank I had a little cube that I bought used and it broke with Dino’s and the h202 worked but they weren’t leaving any time soon! I believe that tank had procreum or how ever you spell it! I ended up getting my upgrade and just moved all my fish and corals to the new tank with my fingers crossed they wouldn’t transfer and they didn’t! Go figure lol… I didn’t even dip the corals I just pulled them from the dino cube and put in my new 300 without any issues. I left the rock and sand in the cube and drained it

Coming into day three. First day I dosed with lights on, last night I dosed about 20mins after lights off. Estimating around 30g total water volume so adding 3mls… Dino appearance is increasing back to what it was before I did a blackout.

Day 5, started on Monday dosing 3ml usually 20-60mins after the lights shut off. So far have seen no changes in either type of algae in the tank… had the old lady show me how to use my lense kit so took some cool pics. Any other suggestions? Maybe up the dosage? I added a stylo frag yesterday and it’s PE sucks, the last time I added a birdsnest the Dinos seemed to attack it as well, not sure what it is about that. The other Acro I added seems to be doing better. Thinking of trying to dose some silicates

A uv light works on that kind. My buddy had that strain and he put a uv light in the tank and it cured it after several days.

Hello, I have been battling a algae I thought to be cyano, not leaning towards dinos, but with no microscope cant give a 100% ID. However I have been fighting this since month 2 of my tank and my tank is about 6mo or so old. Makes me want to die and I was fighting it and manually removing it but I gave up at 3mo and just now deciding I want my tank back.
T2.jpg T1.jpg
I have a 180g with a 40g sump. I have a pentair 40w UV running at about 250GPH, no skimmer yet but have a OCTO 200int Elite to add just need to set up and make room in sump. I have 3 Viperspectre on the tank running 5%W and 50%B.
My belief of why I have this terrible algae is high nutrients without a suffiect means of export. I have 5 tangs, 6 clowns, 3 angels, and damsel in the tank. I was feeding nori at 2mo mark once i got my first tang and once I added in a batch of 4 my nori feeding went up and algae exploded.

So What I have done so far is chemiclean 18 scoops added and turned off my UV. Added airerator and after 48hrs did a 20g water change, but before the water change 0 change in the alage. Then I decided a different approach and added chemi clean 12 scoops right after the first 18 scoops same method but I turned off the lights for the 48 hours which caused this in my tank. However all the algae lifted off the rocks and sand for the first time.... BUT my tank looked like my dog pooped in it.

P1.jpeg

Also after I came back on the 48hr mark I lost a blue sided wrasse and flame angel. Both had been in for a couple months and had been eating and healthy. Why is this not sure possibly the algae I have is dinos, and in specific the dinos that is toxic and it releasing into the column caused them to ingest or breath it and die. AGAIN unsure but the blackout caused this in my eyes.

So I found myself to this thread as a fix to my problem. I have used H2O2 in the past for Green Hair Algae and it worked great. Almost too good. But I did do a blackout with it.
This time I will be doing H2O2 dosing of 18ml at night 9PM at night and bottled bacteria 18ml at 9AM. This is using the 1ml per 10g recipe. Also I will not blackout lights instead doing 0%W and 25%B so a dramatic PAR drop. I did a 30g water change after my chemi clean which was today. So for a timeline I did a 30g waterchange on 12/9/24 at 1pm, and I did my first dose of H2O2 on 12/9/24 at 9pm. I will be continuing the process and taking pictures of my progress daily at the same time. So these photos mark day 0 at time 8pm and i turned my lights to 0%B and 20%W for photos only. I will try to return everyday until my tank is cleared up with photos to show my progress and for others to look and see if you have similar problems and if so what to expect if you follow this threads ideology.

Also one concern I have going into this is CUC in specific pin urchins I have. In past H2O2 I lost them with the start of dosing it and I have 3 in my 180 so I hope to have the same 3 in the end.

Def looks like Dino’s… I couldn’t tell the strain without seeing it under the scope.. when I started this thread many years ago we weren’t using microscopes and didn’t even know there was multiple strains… I wish I did, it worked for me back then with what ever I had…

Let’s hope I can continue the good luck of not knowing and blindly dosing and it eradicating it!!!
My frag tank is too full need this 180 to act right so I can fill it.

Start dosing silicates it never hurts and can take out certain strains of Dino’s as it competes with them!

I was reading on this from randys articles and it can help promote sponges, and some snails and pods is what I think I was reading??? This may be my next plan of attack. I want to try to do one thing at a time (EX. H2O2, then silicates, then H2O2 and silicates) That way I can get a exact pin point on what did it for me to deploy in the future if this problem arises again. Also no free dosers and dont want to buy a extra one, so have to be careful on what I task myself to dose otherwise I will fail by not dosing anything.

Do have a question if you dose silicate @Troylee
- Where do you dose (Sump, tank)?
- What kind do you have (DIY,Premade)?
- How much do you do?
- How do you test for it or is it like food you just add?
- Manual or Doser?
- Do you just dose while you have dinos or should it always be dosed?

I have a few bottles of sponge excell myself but the diy version from loud wolf would be the best bet for price and potency honestly. I don’t test for them I just dose them here or there if I think about it.. now if I had Dino’s I’d be adding a bunch daily cause the worst that would happen in your tank is a diatom outbreak turning everything brown.. I mean who cares it’s already brown from dinos lol.. the thoughts are diatoms fight and take over the Dino’s and we all know it’s very easy to get rid of diatoms… cut the food source of “silicates” off and they burn out.. or run gfo to take the silicates out of the tank.

So I found this on amazon and its after shipping 18.63 fo 4 Fluid Ounces. How much would you dose if you where me and you had a 180g tank with 40g sump half full? Will a 4oz bottle be plenty? Dont want to over buy becuase not sure if I will keep dosing after I clear it up. and the only option on there sit is 1lb for 40 bucks not including shipping.

Day 1 so far have added 18ml of H2O2 and 18ml of bacteria. Lights on for 10hrs at 25%. Considering silicate dosing but we see, going to give it till day 4 if no decrease in poop on my rock and sand will order silicates.

Day 2 I have added all together 36ml of H2O2 and 36ml of bacteria. I am not sure if I believe my eyes, but it seems to be clearing up... Tomorrow or Friday, I plan to manually scrub the rocks and clean the back glass and overflows that I have yet done. But the big winner will be the sand that I am not touching and just letting the H2O2 and bacteria do the work. With dosing and working with the tank daily, I have finally pulled the Phosphate-E out of the cabinet and have been dosing it with the bacteria in the morning with a hour difference between the two. I have NOT been able to see my phosphates under 0.9 which is the cap for my Hanna ULR Reader and today I have a reading of 0.47... I am not tearing up you are... I did not think I would see this day :). However, the journey is yet to be done only the start. Plan to get my phosphates under 0.20 and then see what the daily uptake is with my heavy feedings and nori so I can put Phosphate-E or GFO on a doser and get it under 0.1 and be stable and not bottom out.

One of my main goals with this tank was SPS. My 55 doesn't have the lights or flow or space for them and I got 3 vipers and 2 radions on standby as well and 2 big wavemakers and would like to get 2 gyres as well rolling on the 180. Now, with my achievement,s I am happy to say I see some SPS in the future 'excited'

Been a while but I think I am complete with this method.
Day 8 I have dosed 144ml cumulatively of H2O2 and 144ml of bacteria into my 180g tank over the course of 8 days. I had to adjust my lights through the process starting day 0 at 50%B and 10%W then day 2 moving them to 25%b and 0%w then day 4 going to 10%B and 0%W to then day 5 doing a blackout until the end of day 8 and I turned them back on to come back on in the morning of day 9. Also, I adjusted them to run for 8hr at 10%b for 8hrs and 1%w for 4 hrs with a 2hr ramp up and down. From there I will slowly build it back up to my par range I want.
I have had to multiple times go in and manually scrub and remove from rocks, back wall, and powerheads. I had gravel vacced my rocks once on day 0.
I would say overall it worked great, however in my experience after day 3-4 it cut ALOT of it out of my tank but it was at a stand still. However with the blackout it truly grabbed and pulled almost all of it I would say it pulled close to 95% of it. Now, I did only do a 3 day blackout with ambient room lighting for my fish and I don't want to do much more and risk my high dollar anemones in there that I cant get out. BUT if I didn't have corals I bet if I could do a couple more day blackout It would finish off the dinos on my sand bed.
I do plan to continue the H2O2 at night just to see if I can finish off my dinos on my sandbed or just keep the little bits of dust I have. Also water clarity has been at a high with dosing this so if nothing is looking negative I plan to keep going with it until I forget or the dinos go away for good.

Overall, if you look back at day 0 and your tank is looking like this I would say give it a try, worst case it doesn't work and H2O2 cost 0.99 where I am from. I have snails, urchin, tangs, clowns, angels, and damsels and the H2O2 and bacteria did nothing to them at all but made there home less brown...
