Dinoflagellates my experience......h2o2 reefing tool!!!!!

One thing that's weird or interesting is I have a nano tank for just zoa's and things 4 my son the nano was started with water and rock from my tank that has had this outbreak (prior to outbreak when his tank was started) any way I was down to the last 2 snails I had in main tank they were slowing way down and the other day I noticed they were on there back dieing basically wouldn't even pull into shell if you touched em no movement at all seemed lifeless so to see what happenes I just tossed em into nano ! Two days later (tonight) they r all over moving all happy like and eating like I Havnt seen snails do in months in my tank!! they could barely pull there shell around slow and I mean slow lol I have been battling with this stuff for maybe 6 months now the snails make my think that it's Dino's even more, amongst other things 2 though! but it could not be 2 also... Thanks in advance 4 any advise

Hi again,

So after a few days I thought I need to report back, I still have lots of red on my sand, I did 5 days black out and total of 300 ml H2O2 in to 450Lt tank in 10-12 days. Now it is hard to tell if I still have dinoflagellates or is it the cyano taking over. But tank looks same. Most of my new snails doing fine although they are another type then the ones died and these were still living when the others were diying. What ever I have know don't like to be disturbed, if I let it be it gets contained but if I try to remove it and have a water change in couple of hours it covers the whole sand. I let it stay for the last two days and it is at an OK level.

I could not conclude if the H2O2 did anything or not, but I still have something. By the way most of the parameters are ideal or near ideal witht hte test I have. No nitrite, nitrate, PO4 but still have these groving like crazy.

What do you think these are I am really confused I am sure what I saw under microscope was dino but there wasn't many and some friend told me this can be Diatoms can it be?

Hello all. I am having a major problem with hair algea. I have figured out that the di portion of my r o system was missing and I have been adding phosphate to my tank now for about a year. I fixed that problem. next found out that the buddy that helped me set up my tank neglected to tell me my substrate was 10 years old. Changed that. Broke down my tank and soaked all 100 lbs of my live rock with a phosphate sponge for three days in a covered container. with a power head for circulation. Scrubbed all my rock before I put it back in the tank. Doubled the amount of phosban in my reactor for before i had dipped the rock. Now just went back to regular dosing. Tonight i turned on my white led lights for a minute to check out how things looked and noticied that green algae is working back on a few spots. I am currently running my blue led lights for six hours and my white light for one hour a day. I am worried about only running my blue lights without any white in fear of killing my coral. I just put half the amount suggested of phos buster. Can only wait and see. Phosphate levels are now .25 they were 2.5 a month ago. I am running out of hope. any good tips are much needed. I can not keep up with this crap in my tank. what to do. All water perameters are good now only feeding the corals once a week along with no food for any body else. I am not worried about the fish more so the corals. Please advise urgent!!!!!!!!!

Get a clean up crew and some of them will eat the cyano for you

I agree but H2O2 did only slow it down, high pH did nothing, I am dosing mocrobacter7 now. I heard about Dinoxal did anybody tried it with succes. I am getting feedup with this.

I made a couple videos of two of the main types of dino bloom causing species: YorickSanchez - YouTube
Cyano will often outcompete dinos if nutrients are abundant, so it wouldn't be surprising to me to see cyano eventually overrun the dino bloom.

cagdason did yours look like either of those?

Orange, any chance you could mail me a sample of your bloom?

Pants mine has changed I believe all I have left for algae is red Lyngbya which is slowly receeding also my corals are starting to look better ! I changed sump lights, raised mag (tech m), raised ph,and dosed h202 for 7 days attacked from all angles lol if things start to come back I would/will happily send a sample

Update time

Well After the last defeat I regain my power and tried it again. This time I changed the brand of H2O2 I was using and I also dose Microbacter 7. My dosing was 2ml per 10 Gal twice a day and 2ml Microbacter per 10 gal per day. No lights for 6 days then slowly start with actinics and increase 1 hr everyday. I also uzed UV 16 hr per day close it 8 hr for the microbacter.

Now finally after pictures.

Im about to start dosing in my 1.5 month old tank...but id like a few opinions to make sure these are in fact dinos?

I am not so sure it is dynos ... when I had them they trapped bubbles (like in your pic) but looked more "snotty"-like ... in some of your pics you can clearly see strings ...

Does it come of the rock easely?

I would check my nitrates & phosphates first and syphon most out before starting any threatment!

From my experience the really snotty ones hat are more like trembling balls of Jelly are always that small dino I haven't identified yet. The ones that form tendrils that rise up are either Amphidinium or Gambierdiscus/Ostreopsis.
