DIY 4CH Heater Controller - Arduino Based

So I've been working on designing this 4CH Heater Controller, and I decided to share it here.


Current Features:
- 4 Channels: can control up to 4 heaters.
- Adjustable Temperature Swing: 0.2 to 2.0 degrees.
- Adjustable Alarm: Temperature High and Low.
- Switchable between Celsius & Fahrenheit.

I used PlastiDip the coat the DS18B20 temperature sensors so they don't rust.

I used TRS Jacks (Headphone Jacks) to interface the DS18B20 temperature sensors. They are daisy chained together.

The Arduino board.

LCD Keypad Arduino Shield.

4 Channel Relay Module.

110V ~ 240V AC to 5V DC Converter.
I had to also wire a large capacitor on the 5V side to prevent voltage drops when the relays kicked on.

Everything assembled in a 3D Printed Enclosure using ESUN PLA+ (PLA Pro) filament.

Everything installed on the front panel.

The back (lid?) of the enclosure (also 3D Printed).

Nice looking set up!

Did you use 3.5mm or 1/4in TRS jacks? They look to be 3.5mm. If this is the case, some have experienced problems using them and opted for different, more stable connectors.

Well I wish I would of known that sooner!

I do have issues where if I wiggle the wire even a little bit, it disconnects and causes the alarm to go off.

If I ever make another one, I'll be sure to use better connectors.

FWIW - you may want to change out the jacks to something more reliable as, with time, the 3.5mm jacks become more problematic. I realize you would probably want to reprint the case to accommodate new jacks but believe you would be well served with an upgrade. BTW, not everyone has encountered 3.5mm jack issues but most that have used them end up swapping them out.

The controller is on my quarantine system, which is 3 aquariums stacked, so I'm not really too worried about it right now.

If it starts to get worse, I'll look into replacing them.

If there is a connection issue, the alarm will go off to alert me of the problem.

The alarm is actually quite loud.
