hey guys can you post all your plans for your diy sumps! Also I’ve seen a lot of people talking about putting return pump in the middle and s Refugium on one side and skimmer opposite what’s the benifit of that

I made mine about a year ago. I have yet to test it out. My big build is going so slow... But here's mine. Skimmer on the left where water comes in, return in the center and it will split and have some water coming into the far right so I can control the amount of flow through the refugium. After the water returns to the center, it will either go up to the tank or or back through the refugium. I will have some water reprocess through the refugium section twice, but I am ok with that.

Maybe it works really well for them. I haven't tried it yet so I am not really sure if I will like it. I figure this. I can go on Craigslist or FB and buy another 55 g or get a 75 g tank for next to nothing from someone that wants it out of their way. So, if I don't like it, I can try again. My baffles are only siliconed in so I could also just cut them out and move them. It's a matter of preference really. I like to think that no ones ideas are better or worse than anyone else's, though they may work better in different applications. I would like to grow pods and maybe some fancy macro algae so I won't want crazy heavy flow through my sump but some people might like to watch their cheato tumble like it's on a spin cycle. When I am ready to push pods up to my display, I just turn up the flow and wash them on through!

I have this exact setup but I have socks before the return hits the skimmer. I hate this and actually have new glass coming to make a new sump. Mine is going to return directly into a large refugium, then hit the skinner, the return.

If you had a substrate in your return wouldn’t it just get blown everywhere

I was thinking about the skimmer filtering all the food for the pods... But I could also split the supply and have some go to the skimmer and some go to the refugium. Then they would both flow into the return pump area.

Mine's very simple and very silent.

Dimensions were changed slightly because I bought a smaller skimmer (blue) due to height restrictions (I was trying to use a skimmer destined for my future 150g build on a 29g display with 20L sump). I have a sock holder in the skimmer chamber with a piece of PVC that is just pressure fit in when the socks are mounted. I can remove the piece to change socks. It's completely silent aside from the whir of the pump (green).

Water flows in on the left side, through the center refugium (which is now the largest section), and out through the return on the right side.

So I have a sump similar to your plan here. The one difference is that I have 3 baffles instead of two in my return section. I’m piecing together another sump. Can I eliminate the third pane?

I just used Excel since I was at work and procrastinating haha. Just moved all of the cells to perfect squares and considered them 0.5" each.

You shouldn't need a 3rd baffle. I went with two to increase the size of my refugium. You really just need the two so that water has to flow up before going over the final baffle in order to force bubbles to the surface where they will burst. My sump is literally silent.
