I purchased 2 different types of "palys" - Space Monster Paly and Magician Godz Paly from Cornbreadcorals.com and was wondering if these might release the "lethal" palytoxins? Also, I'm not sure if the one labeled Magician Godz paly is the same as Magician zoanthids but they do look similar and could be mislabeled.

I don't know if they are or not but even if they do contain toxin they don't randomly released toxin into to the water. Wash your hands after touching before you touch your eyes or mouth and don't eat them and all will be good.
I've plucked dozens of the green toxic ones at a time more than once with no ill effects to tank inhabitants. Just use a little common sense and PPE like gloves and goggles if your so inclined.

don't eat them
Haha I chuckled at this! Thanks for reassuring me that I should be fine. I was wondering if it would be smart to run carbon or if I could get away with just using a protein skimmer? I typically don't like running carbon unless needed for short periods of time.

You could use either, both or neither really. I have three tanks running. One with a heavy bioload due to large fish and heavy feeding. I recently added a skimmer to that one since I had one on the shelf. It's pulling a lot out. I run carbon (GAC) in that tank also but just in a bag. I run the carbon mostly because it's a mixed reef with several leathers.
I run my other two very simple. Reefmat in one and socks in the others, no skimmers.

EDIT : If your adding them I see no reason to do anything different JMO

Neither is a paly.

They are two different species of zoas, maybe z. sansibaricus and vietnamensis. As such they pose *almost no risk to you in the regular course of reefing. No need to run carbon if you’re not already.

*Use common sense, ppe when propagating, handling encrusted rocks.

The Magician zoas are a ‘bucket strain’ where there’s a number of varieties, some nicer than others. Yours looks pretty cool! Hope it does well.

There are no "lethal" pallytoxins, no one has ever died from pallytoxin so its not lethal, this is spreading misinformation.

This is patently false, a quick Google search will lead you to a case out of Texas in Feb of 2021 were someone did pass away.

I am the very first to stress that these corals, when handled properly, pose little risk. Half of this is knowing what is a true paly and what’s zoanthid - many of which have long been mislabeled as palys for commercial sales. Most zoanthids possess nominal amounts to no paly toxin.

The other part of this is understanding that if you have cardiovascular, respiratory issues, or are imuno compromised they you just need to be aware.

I’ve had a good friend get paly toxined at his shop while manually breaking up rock from a tear down. He didn’t know they were there. He was in bad shape for 3-4 days and then not right for a week or two. I hating seeing that happen to him. I don’t want to see that happen to anyone else.

top might be sansibaricus, but I can't tell. bottom is likely gigantus
