Do you have a sump with Refugium?

I am considering adding a refugium to my setup. I have a sump now and debating whether or not to replace it with a sump with a built in place for a refuge, or just plumb the existing one to the sump I have. One any better than the other?

I have a sump with a built in refug. Mine is live rock and chaeto, no sand. Easy to maintain. Tank is 500 gal and total sump/refug is 150 gal.

I use a 45g as a refugium and I have some rubble and mangroves in there with a sand bed in one section of it.
Then I use a 90g horse trough as my sump. With rock, return pump, and reactor in it.

I just have a sump with a tupperware container with holes drilled in it with just mangroves in it.

If you want a refugium for nutrient export by way of cheato or other plant life you will want a tank that is approx half your display tank volume. Of course if you have a good skimmer then you prolly don't need to go that big.

I'd say if you've got the room plumb a separate fuge as this might help to keep the sump a little cleaner.

I have a 92G corner with a 30G sump, 20G of water in it. The issue is that I do not have a lot of room, not even sure I could get the current sump out without shattering it.

Easy to maintain is crucial! I have enough sand in my display.

I have a decent skimmer, besides, I don't have the room for a 45G refuge!
