3 month old tank. 5 Cerith snails added 7 days ago for diatom blooms. This is attached to one rock. Is it a pest or a friend. No fish in tank.

I just saw this in another thread a couple days ago. I believe it's a snail egg. @KJ will know :)

Looks like maybe a scallop? Can you get a better pic?
Is this better?

This is an Atlantic Ribbed Mussel (Geukensia demissa), do not be surprised if it changes places; they can move slowly with their muscular "foot", although they can also fix themselves on the rocks with their byssus.

They are filter feeders and good consumers of phosphate and nitrate.

Regards

Excellent! With the new tank any help with keeping phosphates down is good for me! I recently added chemipure elite, what a difference it has made. Diatom bloom looks like it is over. The snails and my new hitchhiker friend, I will name Shelly, are doing their jobs. Now, on the look out for the next uprising in the tank...(you know I’m new...I have nothing else to look at, observe:)
