Does blue light make algae grow as much as white light and do corals care what color it is?

Someone at the LFS told me that some problem algae will not grow in blue light. It is essentially a blackout for them. Is this correct?
Also, do corals get anything out of white light that they don't get out of blues? In other words, would they be just as happy if they lived entirely under blue light? A few feet below the surface of the water, ocean light is just blue, so it seems like that may be all they would need.

You can have blues on but still incorporate white light.
