Does indonesia still use cyanide to catch fish?

I wanted to order a dragon moray from Indonesia, but I was a bit hesitant because I don't want to take any risks regarding poisoning.

If anyone has a bit of information, please do share.

I’ve never seen a dragon moray from Indonesia, but they do catch other eels with cyanide, so I’d presume they would with dragons as well. Eels do seem resistant to residual cyanide effects though.

I have had issues getting some dragon eels to start feeding, not sure why.

Can you get one from Japan?

Apparently, it's more expensive to get it from japan than indonesia for me, there was still one left in stock so I was really tempted to get it, but ofcourse i didn't want it to pass out in a year or two because of cyanide

If cyanide was used, It won’t die years later from it, that’s an old wive’s tale.

Cyanide causes acute organ damage. Fish either die or recover in about 40 days.

The not eating doesn’t seem to be related to cyanide, Ive had it happen with Japanese dragons. Force feeding seems to jump start them.

By force feeding, do you mean to forcefully push the food down it's throat? That's what I used to do for my honeycomb incase it ever stopped eating and it did seem to work

Yes, force feeding whole fish past the vomerine teeth and the eel is then forced to swallow it.

When you said it didn’t work, did you mean it didn’t jump start the feeding response or that it spit the food out?

Apologies, i meant that it worked in most cases, but it did spit the food out in other cases.

I would say that it was a 90 percent success rate, when do you think should i do it? If it doesn't eat for a week or so after getting it?

I give them a month of trying to feed them before resorting to force feeding. I also use MS-222 anesthetic, makes it safer for myself and the eel.

This article has a paragraph at the end about force feeding predatory fish:

Thanks a lot for your perspectives! I guess that I'll miss out on this and look for better alternatives.

Some things are just better off not worth risking.

Thanks for saving my back account guys LOL

But honestly at the same time I am still open for anyone to tell me to take the risk LOL
