I want to price out everything and make sure I have the right equipment picked out before I start ordering stuff and putting the tank together. If you don't mind, check out what I have put together and tell me if there is anything that wouldn't work too well or could be better for the price. Also for the lights, would two AI Prime HD LEDS suffice or would I need something different? The tank dimensions are 48 x 18 x 20.

Looks good so far.
As far as the light, I guess that really depends on what you are trying to grow.

Looking good so far! If a controller is in the budget is do it from the start. I figured adding one down the line would be easy enough... I have one now but need to find a day or TWO to tear apart the sump/cabinet and get it set up.

Yea if I do have enough money I would definitely like to get one and set it up before hand. I was gonna hold off on that for the last because I figured I could find a used one on here for a good price.

I did the same... I was late to the party most times in here but found a good setup on EBay that left me w/some extra's for my 2nd tank whenever I add a one there. Tearing apart and redoing the cabinet is the piece I'm dreading most!

Well at least it will all pay off in the end! What kind of controller did you go with?

Also another question to add, how many gph should the return be for a 75 g tank? And how many gph should the powerheads be?

I went with the apex as it seemed like there's more of them out there and more info available when references/help may be needed.

They say rule of thumb on the return is 10x tank volume per hour so something in the 750-900 range I would say assuming your sump is under the display and not in the basement or another room. For an SPS tank you'd want quite a bit more out of your power heads on top of the return. Harder to say for a mixed reef as it really depends on what corals you keep and how much flow they can handle.

Yea I'm really hoping to get an apex. It sounds like most people who own them like them. Maybe I can snag one for my birthday in a couple months
