Hi reefers,

I'm considering getting one of those LED lightbulb grow lights to put over my refugium to help grow my chaeto. Will the UV LED's in the bulb kill off the good bacteria?

Kind of a dumb question, but I'm a rookie.

Thanks,

-Breck

Only in the water colum. What ever is in the rocks and such is fine. Saying that uv is not a led for growing stuff. Uv light is in a steralizer.

Right, but the bulb I'm looking at just happens to have UV diodes in it as well as diodes for plant growth.

its not true uv in a plant bulb. look at the electromagnetic spectrum. a uv bulb in a steriliser has higher frequency.
so, its advertising.
same a s a reef light that advertises "full spectrum". It contains all parts of the visible spectrum yes, but if you get a "full spectrum bulb" for your house it has an even spread of the spectrum in close to equal ratios, and a reef light does not, it has a high blue spike.
Same thing as sunglasses advertised as HD high definition. sunglasses you wear cannot be 1920x780 pixels. but you can see in better or higher definition.
violet at the highest end of the visible spectrum would be the best, highest or Ultra violet.

BTW, anything that says "infrared heating" is kinda true. Because actually heat IS infrared, and heat IS light as it is part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
BOOOOM!
