Don't know what this is...

I scooped this out of my sump...it was floating on the surface. Maybe from what what ever was in my thermometer that broke in my pump the other day??

I do not have my skimmer on the tank at the moment because I need to get a new pump

Then I definitely think it is protein build up. Keep manually removing it.
