Are you asking how reefers filter the water in their sump? Like, mechanical filtration?

My sump has enough POM to get some in the DOS line and have a bacterial bloom with the POM to plug up the line.

Is the suction tube all the way on the bottom of the sump? That might be an issue if it is.

Your AWC line is pulling water from the sump which is essentially just water from the tank (assuming you aren’t pulling in a bunch of sentiment sitting at the bottom of your sump). To make the water being removed cleaner you essentially need to filter your tank water more effectively. You can do this with increased mechanical filtration, or just pause AWC until your current water quality issues are resolved.

I don't do mechanical filtration. I like to feed my filter feeding invertebrates.

Ive had to pump vinegar into my awc lines and let it sit for a while to clean the lines out before.

Even if you don't use mechanical filtration, I wouldn't think you would have enough particulates floating in your sump to clog the lines? Try keeping the end of the tube closer to the surface maybe? You could always create a filter floss filter to cover the end of the DOS tube.....I wouldn't think it would effect operation. My AWC DOS lines have been running for years without any maintenance at all.

I have my DOS take water from the refugium section of my sump for AWC. However there are only two sections of the sump. The first is the refugium and and a second is the combination of the skimmer and return Pump. Where can I take water out of the system to avoid plugging up the lines during water changes.
