Hey reefers

So my first tank I used to dose with a Chinese pump. It worked out ok but started getting wonky after a while. I’m building my second tank soon and was wondering if there were any advancements in dosing pumps. I heard there was a new pump that tests the alk and calcium on it’s own and doses accordingly ? Interested in your thoughts ! Thanks guys

Sounds like your referring to the Trident. I measures ALK, Ca and magnesium. You have to have a Apex 2116 to rune it and then a DOS or two to do the actual dosing. Add to that the cost of reactants every 2 month old $45 and servicing the unit every 18 months at $150. Ends up being a very expensive proposition! I have looked in to it and personally I do not feel it is worth it. My biggest reason besides cost is reliability. I no longer feel the Neptune line of products are reliable enough to justify giving them any more of my money. There are lots of other options available currently. The trident test all 3 four times a day I believe. Most of the others are only testing ALK, which is the most critical. I just do not see it is worth it to test so often especially for Ca and Mag.
