I had to setup a larger quarantine tank ( 105 gal.) to run all my fish through a copper treatment.
I have 6 wrasses that I am providing sand dishes to sleep in.
I used a pretty fine grade of sand and found that the wrasses going in and coming out, they kick the sand all over.
I've had to add a extra dish of sand of a courser sand just to keep up with the mess.
I am also using sponge filters and Marine Pure media to provide bio filtration.
My problem is, the copper levels are really dropping from day to day.
Every couple days I need to add 1/2-3/4 oz of Copper Power to get the copper levels back up to around the 2.0 ppm level.
I've tested in the morning and gotten a reading of as low as 1.82 ppm. Which over the 15 days so far has been the lowest.
Am I going to get a effective copper treatment with the levels going up and down as much as 0.20 ppm?

The MarinePure blocks are absorbing the copper. Also depending on the type of sand you used in the bowls, that could be absorbing the copper. It is usually advised to only use a sponge filter and some PVC for caves because they do not absorb the copper. I have struggled in the past trying to treat Jawfish in copper because they require sand so I just gave up and decided not to keep Jawfish anymore. I would rather keep my tank free of any parasites.

I know what's soaking up the copper.
I am using sand because the wrasses need it.
I am also using as much biological filtration as I can, because the amount of fish and the bio-load they create requires it.
If I don't have to worry about ammonia, then I'm ahead of the task.

I test twice a day, and I am seeing the fluctuations.
I want to know what issues there could be long run.
Other than going through way more Copper Power than I normally would think possible.

the Therapeutic range is from 1.5. As long as your test kit is accurate, a drop from 2 to 1.8 won’t matter. The key is to not let it drop the concentration below 1.5 for too long.
