I set up a calcium reactor yesterday, calibrating the pH probe, and started running CO2 today. When first starting up the pH in the chamber rose all the way to 19.XX.
In a panic, I recalibrated the probe and saw it drop to around 7.X and continue to drop, turning off the CO2 at 6.5. It's continued to drop to 3.85, and now that I look again it's dropped to 3.66.
I can chalk the first problem up to a faulty calibration, but does the lowering pH sound like it's just running through the CO2 that had been added during the first phase or is there another problem that could be causing this?
BTW, the pH is now at 3.41.
It's only been running for around 40 minutes between the first and second phases of the above issue.
Update: It's now down to 3.00. I increased the effluent rate in hopes that the higher pH from the tank will help the reactor, but that doesn't seem to have done anything. Now down to 2.96 in the time it took to type this paragraph.
