I have had several Duncan’s for about five months with no problems. Today I noticed that several heads on one of the Duncan’s looked like this. Any ideas? Suggestion? Thanks

60 gallon aquarium. 7 months old. No changes. Other Duncan’s, toadstool, frogspawn… are fine. The only difference I can think of is one of my two wavemakers died a few weeks ago and I haven’t replaced.

Theyre melting and likeable causes are:
Too much light intensity
Too much flow
High phosphates
bacterial issue
Elevated Nitrate

Duncans do best in moderate light and water flow with feedings of mysis shrimp 2x per week.
Elevated nitrate are the biggest culprit often as duncans are sensitive to changes in parameters which often causes them stress.
Ive seen many at point of melting come right back. The white intensity in pic is a bit much for their needs.

I will double check the perimeters when I get back. The other Duncan’s are thriving and multiplying. Thanks

you might want to try moving the Duncan to a lower light . I had a Duncan that never did well where it was and I moved it to a lower light part of my tank and its doing good. yes too high nitrate could be since Duncans kinda are canary in the coal mine with water parameters

I will check it out. Up until today it had been growing and seemingly doing well. Stay tuned…

Feed the living heads with mysis shrimp. These corals can share nutrients across the stomachs to a fair degree. Still, you might need to move them eventually.

That looks like brown jelly aka Arcobacter. You might want to research ciprofloxacin for brown jelly disease.
