I just bought these carpet anemones from someone who was closing down their tank. I bought the purple and blue ones and he threw in the red that was on its way out. I’m not sure what was going on in his tank, but he lost three others within the past month. The purple one is doing great, but the other two aren’t. The blue isn’t sticky, but it foot latches on and it does open up. The red one on the other end looks like it’s done for. It’s spitting up its insides and looked like that since I put it in yesterday. Pieces of it are falling off too. At this point is it too far gone to come back from? I did one dose of cipro last night and was going to treat them for the next week, but I’m just not sure if it’s worth the risk of leaving the red one in or if I should just throw it out. Please let me know if you think it’s still possible to save it. Thanks!

that one looks like red at the top pic looks pretty bad and i would definitely take it out before it totally pollutes your tank

Yea that’s the one that looks like it’s dead. Just wasn’t sure if it’s already too far gone even for a cipro treatment. I’ll toss it then so it doesn’t affect anything else.

I mean use your own judgement...only you can decide since you can see it better. I just think it looks bad. I am no expert

I’m def not an expert with carpets either which is why I’m asking. I’ve read up on them a bit, but don’t know at what point they’re considered too far gone.

Im not sure you will find an expert. Hopefully it will recover but its a not looking good. Have you verified all your water parameters are good and you have enough flow. Thats all i think you can do. Then you will have to monitor and get rid of if it looks to fall apart and contaminiate your tank.

That top left corner, the mouth is inside out. Personally, I would toss it ASAP before it foul the water.

the red is not looking good, I would place it in a separate holding tank and see if antibiotics help. i use 5 gallon buckets with powerhead, heater and colander to hold the anemone.

The blue looks like it has a gaping mouth and should be monitored.

I went to remove the red one that was dying and it was already dissolving into the sand bed underneath it so I threw it out. Had to quickly suction out the dead material left behind. Hopefully it won’t affect the others. I’m going to keep an eye on them over the next few days.

How’d the others hold up?

The blue one didn’t end up making it. I don’t believe it was from the red one dying in the tank tho. It wasn’t sticky at all when I got it and I was hoping the cipro would help, but I guess it was too far gone already. The purple one was doing great throughout the whole thing. I ended up selling the purple one a little bit after since it was just too big. It was almost two feet wide when it was fully open so just took up too much space.

Shoot sorry to hear,
I’m going through kinda the same thing with my almost month old one I got. Shaded it and it puffs up like normal almost but it’s mouth is saying in ticked off. Not gaping horribly but not happy either. Ordered some cipro so I’ll see what happens 😭

Was hoping for some good news about your blue one and sorry to hear. How did you dose your cipro and did you use the bucket/ strainer/ power head and a light method?

What did it ended up looking like in its way out bcs it didn’t look too bad besides its mouth which is where mine is at

I ended up just doing an in tank treatment since I was having a bacterial infection affecting a few of my mushrooms. It ended up being inverted just like the red one just took a longer to get there.
