Hey all!

one of my new frags RTNed after looking good for a few days.
i kept the frag in the tank, just in case there was enough viable tissue left on it to recover.

today i spotted something... grabbed a flashlight to make a clear shot... EGGS!

took the frag out, and put it in my "bristleworm and amphipods" tank :)

does anyone recognize these little clusters of eggs?
what's in my tank that i need to hunt down and kill?

That looks alarming like flat worm eggs. I would toss it. Not worth the possible outbreak beyond whatever is already in the system.
Keep a lookout for more flatworms. Be very diligent.
Personally, any frag that has them I would immediately dip and potentially toss

AEFW eggs for sure, have other acropora in the tank?

one more acro in the tank, it still looks good.

the dead frag with eggs has been moved into a small thank that doesn't have any corals in it.

how long does it take for these eggs to hatch? i wonder if i got lucky and no flatworms yet, just eggs that came in on this new frag.

I'd throw that spawn of Satan in bleachwater, then the trash.

I'd dip your other acro frag see if anything comes off, adults can sometimes be near impossible to see on healthy acro flesh.

I'd hold off on that purchase, us stick heads wish it were so easy, Salifert flatworm exit wont work well against acropora eating flatworms, it only kills red planarian worms

Flat worm exit does not have an effect on them. Hopefully you got lucky and they didn’t spread to the other acro. I’d try dipping your healthy frag once a week for a few weeks just to make sure you are in the clear.

I would throw your other Acro in the trash wait three months and then only buy acros from trusted sources

Your lucky to only have two acros in the tank don’t add anymore or you will be battling aefw forever

Cut your losses now if it was me and that last frag of yours was a Homewrecker I would still just throw it away and start fresh in eight to 12 weeks

I know many would see that as extreme, but... you are not wrong.

For laughs.. :D

I’d dip it in Bayer. Might be a good idea to cut the frag off from the base a bit from the bottom before the dip and glue it to a new plug. If you do see worms after the dip I’d agree to just throw it away. Since it’s your only acro you might as well give it a try. Worst case scenario is you just end up dumping it anyway and have to wait a few extra weeks to really start stocking with SPS.

i hear you all. and appreciate all the help.

call me stubborn, call ma a tinkerer or, i like to experiment and learn.
will this come and bite me in the butt later because i was stupid? maybe.

i'm taking a calculated risk.

i'll be keeping the sps tank arcro free for a few weeks. any eggs that my have been laid in the last week, will hatch, and starve due to no acros present.

the one acro thats left, has been dipped and inspected, and moved into the LPS tank

if it survives flatworm free for a few weeks, i'm going to call it clean, and move it back into the other tank.
if it dies, or if i see flatworms on it, then i'll chuck it... and any flatworms in this tank will starve and die, because there is no other acro or even sps in it.

i'll make sure to post an update when i have any result.

and i will send a message to my LFS that they have a AEFW problem.

I think that you made a sound decision.

I gave up in a battle with AEFW back in 2013, hit the complete reset button.
