Eibli angle stung by anemone

Just noticed my Eibli got stung by one of my RBTA’s. Put him in my QT station. Will it just wear off or do I need to medicate him? To the best of my knowledge, I did some searching before posting this. And I have come up empty handed. Or maybe it’s my search question that’s not bringing up results. Either way any info is greatly appreciated.

One of the nems ate my Mandarine not long ago. So it seems these BTA will do what they need to when it comes to food.

Can we see a pic of the Eibli? I have not seen one in a tank in a while. Does the RBTA not have clowns? It most certainly will eat anything it can get its tentacles on. I’d say the Eibli was lucky to get away.

API Melafix contains tea tree oil and is a good dip for all kinds of damage to the skin and scales. Iodine is another good dip for skin abrasions too.

Such a pretty fish! Just can’t have corals of many sorts without a good supply of sponge in a tank haha.

You can see the bruising above its left fin. And there is another right below the fin harder to see.

Other wise the fish was healthy and eating mysis and pellets no issue!

Looks like the RBTA laid a tentacle all up his side. It’s a bad sting, but I think it’s recovering already. Do you see any sort of labored breathing? Like he’s trying to force water through his gills?

Known as hyper-melanization, do nothing. Skip melafix which is junk and merely teak tree oil. You dont need to treat with anything as it will self heal

Its a tonic and good with Freshwater. Familiar with product over a decade and ineffective in marine setting. yes a sting/stings produce black dots in may cases and is hyper-melanization

Thank you sir. Much appreciated. He’s calming down quite a bit. He got rilled up from the catching process. Put in some Kordon Fish Protector to help him calm down. But will leave him be for a day or two in my medical tank.

Yes, skip the Melafix, it's just a "tonic" not an actual medication. Same thing with the "fish protector" or "band aid in a bottle" type products. Don't add iodine, that won't assist with injuries, and could make them irritated.

If it is a sting from the anemone, then only time will fix it.

However, I'm concerned because a healthy Centropyge angel should not blunder into an anemone and get stung. Is the fish eating now? Are you SURE that it didn't have this lesion before it ran into the anemone? There is a disease called Uronema that causes that sort of lesion, but only on newly acquired fish (less than a month or so in the tank). Another key - it looks like the lesion extends above and below the pectoral fin. If it were a sting, the pectoral fin would have protected that part of the fish, and the lesion would be above and below, but not underneath, that fin.

Correct - formalin dips work for external Uronema, but not the inter cellular version like this. I understand that this LOOKS external, but the open wound shows up at the end of the infection, after the damage has already been done inside the fish. It is possible that an oral anti-protozoan drug would work, but it would need to be used before the fish shows any symptoms.....

External Uronema is almost always seen in pipefish, seahorses and seadragons. Internal Uronema shows up in anthias, green chromis, yellow wrasse and sometimes Pygmy angels and butterflies.
