Working on a design for shipping corals. I've purchased some specimen containers and purchased some frag plugs. Now I'm trying to get the design dimensions dialed in for a frag plug holder. I've got the base nearly perfect - grips the frag plug really good and is only about 2 mm off the bottom of the container - now I'm trying to get the height of the "handle" worked out so it just brushes the lid to keep the holder in place during transit.

This sounds like a lot of fun. The holders are mostly for torches, hammers, frogs, and high end coral. My acro and shroom were shipped loose in a bag. Which was not cheap.

More credit to those securing the coral shipping. Less damage/trauma.

Yeah. All I've got right now are my Strats and I really don't feel like having them get knocked around in shipping.

Getting the old printer finally mostly dialed in I think and now my wife is considering buying a second! Probably going to go with a Bambulab for that one but my daughter's college is trying to talk her into a Prusa. $$$

I got zoas in condiment cups once. They poked a frag plug stem sized hole in the bottom and put the stem through it. The cup protected the zoas perfectly lol. It was funny but very efficient.

Yeah, but the cup allows it to bounce around in the container. I'm trying to get them to be held more stable.

It didn't bounce at all. The frag plug sat flush on the bottom of the container. They cut the holes to fit the stem perfectly. Then they were placed in a couple bags full of water. I had to cut the cups off with scissors.

I like the idea of specimen cup holders. Less water needed and that means less room and less money to ship
Southwest Aquaculture used to cut holes in insulating foam and stick the jars in those to hold them securely.

So wait did you buy another tank?!?!!?
No. I think she was actually referring to the 3D Printer.

I don't think I could find room for another one. Although I am considering setting up the 5 gallon at work as a small salt tank. Only hesitation is that I'm only in the office 3 days a week.

Currently I have the 5.6, 8, and 70 for salt, the 110, 15, 20, and 2 1 gallon jars for fresh. I've got the 5 partially tore down at work, just trying to decide if I'm bringing it back home and replacing one of the jars.

I'm considering taking a trip to Petco (or maybe Ocean Floor) today. I want a Clown Goby or Springers Damsel for the 8 gallon and then probably a couple of Turbo Snails or something for this tank.

I've got some algae starting to take hold. I'm probably going to design and print a single floss cup divider and installing the skimmer. I'll need to print a "cage" to keep the clowns and Nems from wandering in there. I may do another dose of Flux to break it down.

I redesigned the hanger for the "floating" shelf because it's been sagging a lot recently. I want to give it a bit more support before it finally decides to fall and I have a zillion Birdsnest frags to deal with.

And here's the frag holder for the specimen cups:

So far the test prints I've done held the frag nicely. Those supports are just either too tall or too short. I think I've got it pretty good for one more test and we should be dialed in.

Well, we went bowling instead of to the fish store. When I got home, I went ahead and printed the new shelf hanger. It's now installed and the shelf is now resecured.

@Tidal Gardens does that too I think.

If you make print in PETG and make it thinner it could flex a little. That may make it fit snuggly. Or upside down wedged in the cup.

I meant the cup bounce around in the bags.
They were filled with water and tied tightly in a small bag. Im sure with that being the case, they still bounced around in the bag.
