I admit I was wrong. My WD frag still looks good but after research I've learned that the pictures were photoshopped badly. My good friend who works close to someone learned the truth. I also learned and found out the raffles are fixed....first hand.

I hope you don't Think I was saying you were wrong or anything along those lines. I was just curious to hear any new revelations. The way I have always looked at it is if a person is happy with a coral than it was a good buy, regardless of what others may say.

I start laughing when I see vendors online/ebay posting corals for sale asking arm and a leg for corals that almost look in color to these. And laugh harder for the fools who actually think if they buy that it would look the same in their tank. Just saying.

The original post wasn't meant as a way to take accurate photos. It was posted to show how some sellers manipulate the camera settings to get unrealistic coral photos to create hype and sell for more money.

It is but it's out there and more people need to be aware. No one has access to a magic stash of corals or the ability to color up corals better than anyone else. We all have access to the same equipment and knowledge. Adam's last line in his first post sums it up best,

Absolutely amazing thread, Adam!!!! I can't tell you how many times I purchased rare frags based on pictures that looked to good to be true.

Another way to separate true gems from photoshopped corals is when other hobbyists are able to grow them out the same as the original mother colony image.

They sure did. This went right over most people's heads.

    Even after several clarifications.

There's nothing wrong with using this to make sweet looking pics imo. As long as you understand the point of the post and don't misuse it.
Tell you the truth though I'm sure most people would rather see normal pictures of your tank if you have a Dslr then maybe you should ask the camera guys in the photography section. There's tons of knowledgeable picture takers on here.

Agreed. For "photography" it's fine to use. For taking misleading pics to sell coral is an issue which is what many vendors use it for.
