Recently my male clown jumped and perished, wanting a pair tried to introduce a new clown to the female Percula in a 33 g. Unfortunately it didn’t go well, the female immediately attacked the much smaller new clown, so much so that removal was needed. Luckily I have a connected mangrove tank that I moved the new clown to. Not sure if I can successfully keep the clowns together. Ideas? I could get another small clown and add to the mangrove tank, but the tank was already maxed out…

Did you try an acclimation box for a few days? Or maybe take the established one out for a bit and let the new one settle in?

Two strategies I’ve ready about when introducing someone new. Though can’t speak to your case specifically.

No, but yes those are two possibilities? I was considering both, however I wondering if the female just won’t accept a new mate? I not familiar with clowns and mixing them.

I would try an acclimation box placed near the females territory for a week or two. I'm not an expert but I've paired a few including maroons and two replacement males after losses and found an acclimation box a huge help. I've actually started using an acclimation box for all new additions not just clowns.

What is a little funny, I also added a Royal Grammy at the same time, with the thought it would help diffuse aggression. Didn’t work obviously , but the much smaller Royal G holds his own against the female clown…
