Hi all, I am new to Reef2Reef and happy to be here. After trying to find the right place to ask this question, I hope I found it!

I have a feather duster explosion. One in particular has grown in size and decided to make its home right in my coral. It is beautiful and I am not mad he’s in my tank, but it looks like he is eroding my coral. Is there a way to safely remove the feather duster? Will leaving the feather duster cause more harm to my coral? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

Love the pun! Here’s two pictures. First is the one who seems to be eroding the coral. Second is the back of my tank with tons of tiny dusters… I think?

Ha! Yep feather duster. I honestly was expecting aiptasia.:p I don't think that coral could be harmed and will just grow around it if there's something going on warfare wise.

Those other guys on the glass I believe are not the same type. I've had zillions of them in my sump but right now I don't think I have any. Harmless.

Welcome to R2R!

I thought it was aiptasia at first too!! Being my first saltwater tank, I was so concerned. After buying aiptasiaX and it not working, I left the tank alone. Low and behold (and thankfully), it was a feather duster after all! Phew!! Thank you for the advice! I’ll leave it alone and see how it progresses. It has pushed some of the hard part the of the coral back, but the coral itself is still out and about. Question… you said the others are not the same type (I have an AIO and they are also all over my back), should I not be concerned and let them do their thing? I’ve recently added a second 10 gal and my 5 gallon is now used as my QT tank for new or sick coral.

Ones on the glass are spiribod worms.just filter feeders and will self regulate as you and your tank adjusts to each other

Y'all want to see some feather dusters? I got you. Disregard the sad state of the corals, they're just waking up. I've tried going through the tank and manually removing them but there's just too many and I end up with my hands up in the tank for too long. Now I just live with it like a ugly mole or bad relationship.
