I took my filter stocks out while cycling my tank and now is super loud. Anyway to help with the water crashing? Roughly an inch drop from the trip filter sock holes to the water. Should I add water to raise it ? Or turn the flow way down?
My sump is a 40B with a Marine biosystems sump kit I purchased on Ebay.
Below is the one I have.

my IM has a silencing plate. you could try something like that?just something with a lot of holes to sippers some water like your baffles. even a frag rack might work. It quiets it, not silences it.

That's awesome! For mine I bought sock silencers however the socks need to in for the silencers not to fall through holes.
Maybe I'll make something out of acrylic.

How long should I go without socks? I dosed the tank with turbo 9000 and put all rock I was previously cycling in the QT tank in the sump.

Just get a PVC joiner and cut a new piece of pipe and extend the pipe below the sump water line.

Don't glue them, just pressure fit so you can remove later.

It's not the water coming from the drain lines. It's the water that flows over the sock holder platform that then falls down through the sockless holes to water.

Add a coupling. That should add about an 1.25"/1.5". You just need the water to go below the water line. This is the simplest thing to do to stop the noise.

The flow looks similar to my WB sump. More water may help. I had a lot of noise from the water falling over the weir and raising the level helped. That said I've never removed the socks for cycling. Not sure what it would accomplish, but there's a lot I don't know. I've pulled socks to help raise nutrients but not for cycling.

EDIT: where is your water level? I would think raise it to where it just below that weir on the right and it should raise it in the sock chamber so water isn't falling as far.

I would just put the socks back in if it's bothering you that much. This way you will not have to deal with adjusting the water height if you want it at the level you have it now.

Cut old filter socks so that they just break the surface of the water. They'll give water something to cling to on its way down, and keep switching back to using socks as easy as changing socks out.

Oh okay,

In that case what I did was cut the bottom off two filter socks so they are open at the bottom.
