First Acro help

Just bought a frag. I'm new to sps. I know that it isn't out at the minute but is this supposed to look like it is? With the white bits near the base?

That is tissue necrosis or other damage. It could be from where it was cut from the colony - the bone-cutters and saws can leave a mark.

Keep an eye on it. If it spreads, then it needs attention. If it stabilizes and starts to heal, then this is good.

I was under the impression that across cannot heal from this?

Hmm not sure. Is it a gonner if it is? Or will. It grow over it? The polyps are out around the white parts now

If its tissue necrosis tho isn't that a gradual progression with no cure?

That coral would recover just fine in my tank (and many others) whether it was sloppy putty, some tissue loss or damage from fragging tools. Healthy corals in good systems can recover from STN or any of those things. Don't sweat this too much. Just observe it and see if it gets better or worse.

If one of the branches grows too close to a rock. Will it sense it is there and change direction? Or just carry on growing in that direction? And collide with the rock?
