I'm running a red sea reefer 750 which has been up for approximately 6 months. Started the triton method about 3 weeks ago and need to set up a refugium. I have never used a refugium in the past so I'm a newbie when it comes to Refugiums. I see many different refugiums running, some with sand some with mud, some with marine pure blocks, and frankly I'm looking to set it up a simply as possible. I own a Kessil H160 tuna flora and I'm looking for suggestions. Can I have the refugium before the skimmer? Can I use marine pure blocks for the bottom and simply just add chaeto to this area? Any help would be appreciated. All suggestions welcome.

I assume that with a Red Sea system, you don't have a lot of spare room in the sump? Is your refugium going to be in the existing sump or are you going to do a remote sump?

I would keep it simple and based around what you want the refugium to do. Some just add Chaeto and that's it. The algae grows and pulls nitrate and phosphate from the water and provides habitat for pods and more (I have 2 urchins in mine). If you don't have a lot of LR in the DT, you can add more in the fuge. There is no need for sand or mud unless you want it to kind of exotic. I'm more of a natural system and I never tried the marine pure blocks. If they aren't solving an issue for you, why add them?

It will be in my existing sump. Refugium area will be 9 inches wide by 26 inches long. I am light on LR so I felt marine pure blocks would be a great addition for surface area. My sump is located after the fuge does that matter?
