I have been researching saltwater tanks and was trying o decide if I should buy a entire system like the red reefer tanks or try to build a system piece by piece. I’m looking for a 100 gallon tank
Both are viable but there are some good pre made setups on the market now (waterbox/planet aquarium, etc). The general rule of thumb is buy what you want the first time because upgrading later just costs more. That being said if you don’t necessarily know what you want/don’t want then those packages are a good base to learn and usually cost effective
Welcome. Upgrading equipment after setup is a royal pain in the rear. Research if you are unsure a full blown tank with premade sump is the way to go. Buying all in one may get you discounts as well. Always go for as big a sump that will fit and easy to work in and around.
Hi. The good thing about the Red Sea reefers is that unless you go deluxe, you pretty much just get a tank, cabinet and sump etc.. (I think the delux might only come with the lights) and you then have a lot of different possibilities and choices for the actual equipment. I’m in the process of getting everything together to build up a reefer 250. Like the other guys, a lot of research and try and buy everything once rather than upgrading to better a short while after :)
