ok, I got the tank running really well. It's taken a ton of work but it is starting to look good.

Ufortunately, or fortunately, however you look at it, I am down sizing to a 58 oceanic. 😲

I have always loved that size tank and stand especially the stone painted ones.

I have an opportunity for more laser work and possibly getting paid to train people to 3d print. However, I don't have the room or time to do both the big reef and those things.

Down sizing to the 58 gives more room and, more importantly, way less maintenance and more safe for me. After the second stroke, my balance became a serious issue and I was banned from ladders. Well, the other day I was on a step stool scraping glass, lost my balance and went crashing to the floor and almost landed on Luna. I am not hurt, but, I was banged up a bit and sore for a couple days. That was a wake up call.

It's time to take a step back and do things I can handle.

Not, quitting reefing. I just couldn't do it.

I will keep all the livestock except the sailfin in a large sterilite whilst I break down the big reef, and setup the 58.

Before that can be done, I have to paint the stand, drill the tank and build a sump or buy one. Haven't decided yet. I ordered a fijicube 600 overflow. Going to keep the Tunze skimmer and a couple powerheads, the Maxi doser and RODI setup that I just ordered a new membrane and add on silicate kit from BRS. I will also keep my top off (yes @Lowell Lemon I will never part with it). I am deciding on lighting right now. It'll be easier to sell the big tank with the lighting setup so I am working on a different set of lights. Possibly Dahlua or a P9x or a hydra 32. I really don't know.

Hopefully, by the time all that's done, I have a buyer for the tank and don't have to put it in storage.

PM me if you are interested.

Stay tuned. I promise to take more pics this time around.

One thing I need input on is the back of the tank. It's currently black and I just am sick of black back tanks. What do you all think of clear, frosted, blue or... Please comment your choice and give a pic of a tank setup that way.

The current status of the tank. It’ll be stone texture paint like the original ones from the early 90s.

Sorry to learn about your step-ladder tumble but am happy nothing bad happened.

Assessing, reassessing and accepting our limitations, as we age, is no joke. Not sure if you remember but I did my last concrete work 3 years ago. After I finished the job, I said, "Never again." This is also the reason I am dreading having to pull new electric and some plumbing through the attic for the new tank.

I have seen some cool clear tanks set up with background lighting. I do thing they were peninsulas but it could still be cool on a standard. If I can, I'll try to find some pics.

I do remember that conversation.

I am also not crawling under the house again after the fiasco in march with leveling the floor. :)

So here is the equipment list so far:

Oceanic 58 gallon and stand (to be painted stone textured)
Fijicube 600gph overflow
Tunze ozmolator top off
DIY top off container (old reliable)
Two Smatfarm g3 60watt (on stock arms unless I decide to build something later)
660gph jecod return pump
Two Tunze 6015 (and an extra just in case as well)
Two H2Pro 200 watt heater
DIY net top (I somehow wound up with TWO redsea kits)
Tunze 9410 skimmer
GHL maxi doser

Still undecided:
Sump (either buy or build)
back glass color (if any at all)

If I am going to use the following:
UV this time around(it's comically overkill)
ozone setup(also completely overkill)
apex or go with a something more simple just for temp warnings

sometime in the next 3 to 4 weeks I have to sell the other tank first and move the livestock to a temporary holding tub.

Gonna try this on the tank now and see if it works. If it does, I will give it a permanent home on the new setup.

you can set and upper and lower limit to trigger the audible alarm and the app alarm. Pretty nice for under $30.

I have several Govee devices at the house and all work very well.

GHL maxi doser

Still undecided:
Sump (either buy or build) - You know you want to build it. Just build it.
back glass color (if any at all) - still waiting on pics from my highly intelligent and debonairre friend, Chris.

WARNING: I am going to call you. Don't worry, though, as I'm giving you a 24+ hour advanced warning so you can mentally and emotionally prepare yourself. It's been about a month since we last spoke and we're due for a call. I am thinking some good topics for discussion will be your new Bambu printer, the new 58 gallon system and what wonderful guys we are. I am open to topic suggestions but believe the ones presented will already easily cover 1.5 - 2 hours as you never shut up. Especially when it comes to the last topic.

Picked up the tank and stand and replacement filter for the planted tank from my buddy last night.

I failed to notice there is only one tiny 12" wide door on the front... not good for sump installation or maintenance.

So, what will happen? You know darn good and well I will modify the heck out of it before I paint it. 😁

The plan is to remove the whole face frame, reinforce the top frame so it doesn't sag and turn the face frame and doors into a removable, 1 piece, panel. It'll still look just like it does but have a heap more functionality. I have to get it on the bench and confirm this is possible without wrecking anything.

I have to get the interior in my truck done before I am allowing myself to work on the new setup. Rain, rain go away!

Here is an example of some restored panels for the interior of the f150:

Before
seatbelttrimbefore.jpg

After
seatbelttrimafter.jpg

All of the interior panels look this good or better and are lined with the sound deadening foam they use on new Lincolns. The truck has 60 pounds of amazon's version of dynamat on the floors and walls.

I also have some folks coming to take a look at the big tank and possibly purchase it. They understand it'll be a few weeks before they can take it with them. I got my picasso clown from them. Very nice folks.

I decided to sort of build a sump. Got a 20H on half price from petsmart (I will remove the top trim), ordered a cliff hanger R sock holder and some matching yellow acrylic to make a bubble trap to separate the return pump section. I already have a magnetic dual heater holder and the yellow pvc for the drains.

The only bad reviews of the cliff hanger is the socks don't fit. I don't use them anyway, I will print a color matched filter floss holder instead.

With everything all in on the swap, I will have just about $400 in it (not counting the stuff I am reusing). Not bad.

Sounds like a plan.

So now the question is: Floating canopy or just use the brackets that came with the lights?

I am printing a shade for the light just to see how it looks.

But, I have and idea for a canopy that would look nice, shade the lights from view but be simple enough to remove for maintenance.
