another day another thread. the research is endless but getting answers. so in my tank planning im curious of what pumps would be best for my set up. ive been looking around and seen some interesting stuff and saw someone with the same tank dimensions as mine use gyre pumps mounted on the eurobrace instead of the walls. i actually love that thought and how it looks. the person even has less trouble with flow drop off because not as much light hits the impellers. now heres my question... my tank will be mostly lps and anemones with some sprinkles of sps. i have experience with mp40s and AI neros. i do really like the neros and the app control. in my research i was leaning towards the maxspect gyre 350s because of possibly using the hydros controller in the future. i like the orbits by AI with the app control and popssibility of using apex. looking for some opinions on this. i know i know gyre pumps need cleaning. that is taken into consideration already in tank maintenace and possibly extra impellers or pumps as backups. and the reason being im not really looking at the mps is im not as crazy about them as when i first came into the hobby. and with the prices i feel more compelled to find used and in central pa theres not much around for some resaon.

either way what ive looked at and have been considering:
maxspect gyre x350 2 pack - i was looking at getting two of these and running two on each side of the tank. what also leads to this thought is finding them cheaper here

AI orbit 4 - same idea with an app im comfortable with

while im here i might as well ask what people are using for return pumps. still ecotech? on my last tank i was using reef octo and loved it. i do plan of using dual return pumps abd would take reccomendations on that as well

You are considering using a WaveEngine...you have routes to save money and future proof yourself.

As you have come to learn, whenever you purchase a pump, you get the PUMP, the POWER SUPPLY, and the CONTROLLER....every time you purchase a new pump. That is a lot of extra.

Say that you have a WaveEnginev2, this has 4x PUMP PORTS on it. You already have the power supply from the WaveEngine, you already have the Controller, compatible pumps are sold as PUMP ONLY, saving you a large portion of the cost that other pump kits would incur.

This allows you to expand at your rate, albeit with that size of a tank, you would fill it up. With that WaveEngine, you can also incorporate multiple pumps from different brands.

This would include Reef Octopus OctoPulse, IceCap Gyres, Maxpect Gyres, Reef Octopus VarioS 2&4, Reef Octopus VarioS 2s and 4s, and more always coming!

I HIGHLY suggest checking out the OctoPulse Pumps...they are BULLETPROOF. Obvious bias, but i'm not wrong. :)

Then of course you are in the HYDROS ecosystem, you can expand out at the rate that you wish, adding more HYDROS for more ports, for more jobs. Whether its more pumps, or dosers, or sensors, or power ports..the Collective is there to grow how you need it.

Finally...and I think this goes to show how much we try to make our customers receptive to our products....WE MAKE A CABLE THAT LINKS THE HYDROS WaveEngine TO OUR COMPETITORS CONTROLLER! I don't love advertising that, but it goes to show, when we make a product, it is for the end user experience. This industry is a hodge podge of tech, we don't need that working against each other...enough of companies closing doors so users are only engrained in 1 system...no, we work hard to enhance the user experience based on the tech THEY WANT TO USE. Real life expambles of that are HYDROS working with ReefBrite, Sicce, Kamoer, Focustronic, and Maxspect to compatibilized products and keep that warranty for your product....more partners coming!

Have fun researching, we hope to see you in the HYDROS group soon! -Connor4

ive spent all day looking in what you said further. my question is if i still wanted the maxspect gyres as initially planned, i would have to get the non cloud edition correct?

now my question for the public. how much flow do i need? can i go with a gyre on each side of the tank and something like 2 reefocto puls 4s maybe on the back or sides of tank?

as for the pumps in the sump now that im more confident in the hydros system, im also more comfortable going with reefocto varios pumps. i do love them and have used them before with zero issues. if i want a dual return on a tank this size what should i lean towards? 2 varios 6s? 2 varios 8s? for refrence the sump im leaning towards is a synergy reef rm-72.

I run a pair of the x350 on either end of an 8ft 300g (96 x 31 x 24) with 3 mp40's across the back wall. Gyres run at 70% cross pattern 5 minute interval, MP40's I run off Mobius Control thru Apex, custom lagoon with nutrient transport profile I built between 40% and 65%.

thank you for this! so maybe with a foot smaller tank i can run a pair of x350 (one one each side) and start with 2 pumps on the back wall. ive never ran a pump on the back wall, have you had any issues with sand being blown around? or is it basically set as the gyres provide most the flow and the pumpos on the back are the "supplemental" flow and those are where you make your adjustments?

Take a look at Sea Sweeps if you have never heard of them.
I run 2 on my 59×30×21 and it's better, imo, than gyres.
No.cords in the tank as the cord runs through the sweep.
You only need 2, imo. Take a look at my build thread for more info.

if I crank the power up on the mp40's they will move the sand, but I was more interested in not having any dead spots, I think i achieved that with my setup, placement and profiles.

thanks to the help from this thread im pretty sure i know what im doing for flow pumps. a question i have is with the hydros wave engine v2 it states you can use the gyre xf330/350 but the non cloud version. is this still true? im having a hard time find non cloud versions in stock. i have a potential really good deal for 4 xf330s but theyre cloud versions. $200 for 4 pumps. im ready to jump on it but the asterisk of the hydros website saying they need to be the non cloud version worries me.

which of the other gyre pumps that work with the hydros wave engine v2 are the best options? are the ice caps comparable? are they as reliable. i did like the newer flow cages on the maxspect gyres, ive heard theyve helped with some of the algea issues involving them.

@Connor At CoralVue input on this would really help and basically solidify my flow options for me. thank you alot for the initial message
