I got a diamond goby I think around September last year. It went missing a month ago. I was supposed to have a custom cover made for my Maxspect LS 090, and after sending in specs and tank dimensions, there was no follow up from that company. I’ll do some DIY stuff, but I’m too critical about some of my work I guess, and I suppose most people wouldn’t see my own hangups, so my next project is to get that tank covered. Anyways, today I found the diamond goby in my sump by the protein skimmer. I wish I could’ve gotten a pic, but it is in some obscure place hiding out for now. Nothing great to see in my two pictures, but to give you an idea of how I think this happened, the goby must’ve jumped and somehow, luckily made it to the half circle cutout on the overflow lid and into the overflow compartment and down into the sump. I can’t imagine many other ways it could have gotten down there. L8r today, the plan is to launch a full scale goby recovery mission and get him back to the display to start sifting my sand again and not living next to filter socks and a skimmer. Being a goby, I figured this fish would jump eventually. It either got lucky, and that should be its name, or it’s a goby Houdini of some sort. Tell me your story of something crazy, yet miraculous.

Mine got chased out by my Tang not so lucky . Do you think it may have gotten into your overflow and travelled through the drain Pipe ? I had that happen . No acrobat

I make my own lids with white mesh , and acrylic. Took me a while to get it down where I like it . Have two more to redo since I am not happy . That's the trouble I keep getting new ideas gets expensive if you don't think it all the way through

For sure down the pipe into the sump. There are 4 rectangle pieces in the front of the overflow that are weir guards, 1 left weir with a return, 1 right weir and the other return nozzle. They are always snapped in securely. Im getting ready to do this. What a survivor though, living on detritus and organic sludge down there. I’ll see if I can do this efficiently and a nice picture to go with it.

Success, the little guy looks bigger to me, but slightly emaciated. I’ll make sure to include a buffet style feed for his welcoming in about an hour. He swam off to a safe place.

Send me a pic or two if your down. I got lots of material to do something similar, I’d have to learn some about acrylic. This is my Red Sea cover I did. First did not work out and a BSJ jumped out of a 1/2” gap. The Maxspect tank will be a little more complicated. I should buy a dremel tool. I always borrow one. 👍

Lucky saw the giant rubber ducky pool float and thought he was at a water park. He took a ride in the tube!
Glad you found him. Good luck with the SAR-OPS!

Well I am not absolutely sure but when I heat and bend it glue does not seem to totally bond . So that is why I am redoing some using silicon so I will show you one that is holding . It is a little clunky looking but has to hold the weight of the light . I now have 1/4 inch black acyclic I am going to use as is and press the mesh in between them and use silicon . The one picture is my first attempt and just used regular screen making frame material with stainless mesh off amazon but it eventually started to corrode because of the salt . So tried to change to mesh and encase the painted metal screen frame in the bent acrylic . It would work for you if you use silicon , but mine ended up being too big now , but they are sturdy , and not bad looking . I am currently busy with drilling a new tank for an overflow box , building a sump , piping assembling a table for my canister filter , and putting everything back together. I will send a picture of my original , and the two complete . One will stay the other 4 will be the ones I have to do again with the 1/4 inch acrylic only because they ended up to big like I said. So give me a little while to take photos . Good Luck

Also look at Japanese pull saws . They work as described . You will see most have a support/ spine for the blade , but I found some that don't so you can cut a continuous line along a surface of sheet. I think they would be handy . They have various styles and range between 14 - 20 teeth per inch for a smooth cut . I had trouble with a rotary tool it melted the acrylic. A true variable speed Dremel would work to prevent that but you are limited as to bit size as the chuck is small. So for some things you need a combination of the 2 tools

Hey as to your covers in the sump which I really like . I am assuming that you did it to lower splashing and salt creep . Does it work ? Also is it clear acrylic ? If so where did you find it ? I cannot find it only black

I like the covers, this Maxspect tank, LS090 is an AIO. It’s got some nice features. Salt creep is moderate around the covers. I sometimes use a spray bottle with RODI and a cloth to wipe it clean. Once in a while under tap water with a brush to help get more buildup that’s kinda mineralizing affecting the transparency. Great splash guards, 👍

I have wanted to make a good cover /covers for my sump . It is not easy because the piping is all done . Your picture gave me good ideas . I was thinking of siliconing internal 90 degree lips to further stop salt creep . It makes a huge mess . Here are pictures of my lids , maybe you can get better ideas off these . Like I said I am going to use 1/4 inch acrylic to make them differeant ( just 2 ) . I also use shoe / boot trays to make them . The lips make a strong border and come in differant borders . Like the big one I sent
