Can anyone help me identify this and figure out if it is bad for the coral and my tank ?

Forgot to mention it instantly retracts when light is shining at it and only comes out at night
 
Looks like a feather duster. If so, then they are harmless filter feeders. Hard to say for sure with that picture though.
