I noticed the past few nights that my fungia is exhibiting different behavior at night. When I first got it ~2 months ago it was extending its feeders at night, pretty impressively so. They were about 1/4” during the day and extended almost 3x that amount.

It’s super fleshy and often extended, lights on or off. I feed it mysis and/or brine shrimp once or twice a week and it gets some ReefRoids when I’m feeding my other LPS twice a week.

Fast forward to 3 nights ago when I started checking the tank at night for coral aggression and hitchhikers after receiving a shipment of some platy and favia colonies that I noticed it is puffing up into a big dome shape. I don’t think it got stung by the platy like my acans did, but I can’t be sure.

This is also not my first fungia and I haven’t seen this before, and Google didn’t have anything for me.

Mine looks like that occasionally, I’ve never known why either.

They can fill up with water and it’s a way for them to clear debris, especially if they get sand on them. They can also deflate and “walk”.

Ive seen them do this as a form of locomotion, to scoot to a spot that may be more appealing for a plate.

They inflate when they are not happy where they are located and try to move. Mine do it if the flow is not right.
