We all entered this hobby with dream fish in mind and a scape plan as well as particular coral in mind. Afterall, this is what attracted us to marine aquarium keeping. We have seen particularly over the last decade absence of fish due to import and collecting regulations as well as supplier shortages.
We all have a fish or fishes we have dreamed of, was part of stocking plan or now desire as part of our collection.

What is that fish or fishes you wish to have or are looking for in the future?
If available, what is preventing you from getting it?

For me, I would like a larger unicorn tang with the horn starting to protrude and a small shoal of Pyramid butterflies. The unicorn is impossible to find (only at 4" size) and Pyramids are gone as fast as they show up. If I saw one, I was not going to pay that high price.

I would love to have a cow/box fish, as they seem super chill and very curious/inquisitive. The whole stress/toxin thing is just too much of a deal stopper for me, though.
While they both have toxins, It is often due to stress where there is risk and rarely if ever do they release their toxins. The issue with them is often starvation. If eating will stop at some point and weaken until death. Cowfish have honeycomb scales which bloat and boxfish turn pale when dead. They must be alive to release toxins are dead ones wont as often suggested. At my LFS, Maybe 5% ate and in time, I realized- Stop ordering them.

From what I have read on here recently that seems to be a myth. Plenty of people reporting they have had adults die in their tanks with no side effects. People are very quick to blame things for their mistakes in this hobby. Asterinas are my favourite one
That's interesting. I have far too many fish that might potentially chase/stress them, so I think it would still be rolling the dice in my reef environment.

Would love to have a butterfly fish. I have a 125 G 6' long tank, but I am scare to add it, as I learned they can be difficult to feed. I do not want to kill any fish, so I just abstain.
Also my tank is quite a few years old and should be considered well established. However I never see any pods in it. I bought some at least 3 times from 2 different vendors, and still no visible pods. That is another reason I do not dare to buy one.

That's fair enough. Honestly there could be situations where they can release toxins or maybe you would run into issues with less water volume but they do seem much safer than I originally thought. We have a little baby at work right now we are gonna put in our 400 gallon tank eventually.
I've got one emperor angelfish that can be quite a d*ck at times, four lyretail chromis that I've learned love the "chase" and another seven damsels that while are on the lower end of the "pursuit" column - are somewhat territorial.

Anything little and weird. I recently ordered a trio of Tanaka's possum wrasses and a pair of black cap grammas as the finishing touch to my tank, the black caps particularly being one of my dream fish, but I could never justify spending $150+ on a single small fish. Found them for 70, so I ordered the smallest and largest ones and I'm hoping for a pair!
In a future tank, I would love to have a large group of Tilefish and dartfish living together. At the moment, though, my two bird wrasses would probably terrorize them (not out of aggression, they are just very curious), and my tank probably doesn't have enough opportunity for burrowing as they'd like.

I kept a longhorn cowfish for a year. Super friendly appeared to eat well and add mass, then it just stopped and one day i had a stationary cowfish on the floor of my tank. no signs of injury to the fish or anything else. i have it preserved in a mason jar in my home office.

My list is mostly triggers
clown trigger
fusco
queen
goldenheart
zebra eel
Mac, asfur and annularis angels
polleni grouper and a group of yellow tangs led by a desjardini

Just curious, why a maculosus if you already have a asfur? Aren't asfurs a better looking version of a maculosus?

I don't keep wrasses. Can you keep all those above in a 6' tank?
Yes. Most of those wrasse are Cirrhilabrus, and stay relatively small, and are very passive fish. The Lineatus would be the only not too peaceful but still peaceful one. You can keep more than just those 4 in a 6 footer

I have neither- I’m constantly on the fence between the two for my large FO build. The asfur has some really awesome colors, stays smaller grows way slower but macs are supposed to be “bulletproof” and very outgoing.

I also really like the blueline angels and goldflake those are more attainable

I see. If you want a bullet proof for a FO, why not a emperor? Beautiful and cheap.
I currently have a emperor and a blue face. I had a annularis that wasted away in quarantine. They don't do well in copper.

Especially with the CB now available from biota and relatively inexpensive.

I don’t know! Obviously emperors are beautiful- but I figured I’d had yellow tangs and wanted diverse colors? I’m a sucker for the blue too
