Is it useful to have a ground probe on a tank when literally all of the equipment on the tank is connected to a GFCI? The circuit should trip within a few hundredths of a second upon a drop of about 5 mA. Does this really make the grounding probe pointless or is it just good to have around as a second line of defense against electrocution?

Not all equip used in tanks have a grounded plug (3prong). So if that particular item leaks current then the GFI won't necessarily trip without the probe
