In case anyone’s interested, the gig continues to improve daily. I believe it’s out of the clear. Eats quite a bit, VERY sticky, and color returning.

I still find it odd that this happened in the first place. If it's been under halides there's no reason for it to bleach, then recover. What do you think caused it?

The only theory I have, and I think it’s common, is an animal adjusting to a new environments chemistry. Some pieces adjust without problems, while others do not. The shock of transport combined with new tank. If the animal wasn’t strong to start with, this can overwhelm it.
Of course, I’m just guessing here. When it arrived I began reading up on the species since it was not what i ordered. I have a lot of experience with Haddoni, but none with gig. Everything I read concerning them and home aquariums said they general do not do well and difficult keep. The basics are high light/very high flow, but we all know there’s a lot more to it. This particular specimen made its way from whatever reef it was taken from, placed in a new tank after travel, repacked and shipped to me, and introduced to yet another new tank. That’s a tremendous amount of stress on any delicate animal.

If you want to move him from the glass, I would put some smooth rocks around him. Once he move to the rock, then you can move the rock. Put two rocks on either side of him and another rock as a bridge across the two rock. If you do this, he most likely will craw onto the rock instead of stay on the glass.

Very nice gig! No current/looking downwards. I’m definitely not gonna move him. He’s doing incredibly well, far better than I dreamed possible.
