I too have ordered several tanks from them over the years. For myself and for people who hired me to do a setup.

Never had an issue with a glass tank.

Don't like their acrylic.

But, I wouldn't hesitate to order glass again.

I just received a custom 150 from Glass Cages, and well I’ll let you be the judge of it. Horrified they let this leave the factory like this. Any of y’all experienced this before? Have email and photos out to them, awaiting response...

Inexcuseable and a Lack of quailty control. For what they charge, the least they can do is assure it is a product they would be happy with if it were they buying it and receiving it in the condition they have prior to packing. Definitely one worth reporting to better Business Bureau at minimum

Wow, and I thought they stepped up their game. Messy silicone everywhere!

The pieces of glass with "ripples" on it look rather scary - looks like there is even a surface crack, perhaps the pictures lie.

I’ve installed a lot of various manufacturers Oceanic, DAS (same level CG), DSA, class cages (CG) when I use to work for LFS, and planet is by far the best vendor for reliable results. I had one of my big tanks a 450 gallon reef from DAS leak in a ridiculously expensive house I lost the tank and account because of it. I didn’t like using them before and after that I no longer even offer them as an option it’s poor qc anyways constant problems and want to argue. One poster talking about the quality in comparison to cages and my opinion’s planet is far surpasses them they have integrity from the start to the delivery and will do right by you. I’ve had 2 problem with them one was their old external overflow design that would pinch the external box making it explode which was fixed they replaced the tank. The other was on my personal build they lost my order sheet twice and then couldn’t get small cuts of starfire my custom rimless little tank. Didn’t bother to call me I would’ve just gone with standard glass. 3 months later I finally got $850 vendor cost. Custom 50 gallon 36x18x18 tideline rimless, thicker glass was used/starfire, bottom trim, drilled return, and black silicone. That’s only delivery issue I had a problem with even then they made me a awesome tank I have confidence in. Every company has some at least minor flaws, but it how the respond and handle that matters! Everything they’ve built for me is beautiful and the quality is great. Miricales and Lee Mar build amazing stuff too and are honest companies! If you need a custom tank that will be delivered as ordered and in one piece consider them I’ve been happy overall. Here’s some of the tanks I had built for my clientele that I service.

I’m just surprises me how these builder let little mistakes cost them business and more money in end. We all have problems I’m understanding of that, but your service or your product is something you should take pride in. That should’ve been noticed before it even made out of their facility. I had on several occasions where DAS on full custom builds they hadn’t even beveled or grind edges of the glass down slicing my palm or finger wide open unloading it. Then having upset the customer sending it back for weeks for something it takes maybe a hour to do I would say max a 2 day turn around. It’s a safety issue you would assume that would be no question and it looks like trash.

Either way sorry to see that, I hope everything works itself out for you!

Thanks I appreciate it very much! I’m on my pursuit of perfection. I definitely treat my installs like a work of art. My main goal is it being functional and reliable. Looking good is a bonus I have fun and enjoy doing it even after all this time!

UPDATE:

I was able to speak to Beth today, which I believe is one of the owners. She was super apologetic and agreed that the tank should have NEVER left the factory in that condition. She is having me ship it back on a pallet tomorrow and building me a completely new one. They are going to send 8-10 pictures of it before it ships (3 weeks) for me to look at.

I can't say I am happy but owning a company myself, I am glad they are doing the right thing.

Will keep you all updated when the new tank comes in and see how the 2nd go around goes.

Thanks for all of your input.

Im considering a glasscages tank myself. The 130x37x30. Nobody competes with their pricing. As i understand all the big tanks are now built with their version of low iron at no added charge.
I currently have a miracles in glass 300 rimless low iron tank setting in my garage waiting for my remodel of the house to be completed. That aquarium is built like a tank. Reinforced seams along the bottom, where strips of glass are glued along the bottom panel against the vertical ones, and the back vertical seams have angle cut glass in the corners forming a 45 degree. I can take pics and post them tomorrow.
Im considering getting the larger tank from them but its double the price of glass cages.

Many of the custom tank builders use reinforcing glass strips. Glasscages and C2C do it along the bottom for most tanks. C2C does it in the vertical corners above a certain size.

I believe your ssking a question like which is better ford or chevy. Never get a real answer. I dont know anyone with the glass cages, but at least 2 people with planet. 1 of the planet, a 300 gal cracked on the back panel. They fixed it, not for the buyer, but for the shop that sold it. The owner didnt appreciate that they fixed it instead of replacing it, or that they did so only for the sake of the seller. He tried to sell it at half what he paid. It was only a month or so set up. They said it wasnt leveled properly, but the seller is the one who installed it.

Honestly, every single tank manufacturer (just like ALL equipment) has failures. Bar none. I am sorry to rain on anyone's parade.

Now, that being said, it is how the issues are handled that make the difference and, here as well, you will hear different stories as to customer service satisfaction.

I am a really tough customer if there is an issue. I admit it. I have had the BEST customer service from Beth at GC. I have heard she was really hard to deal with but, I have been dealing with them for over 20 years now and always been treated like family. When I finally got to meet her in person, I stuck my hand out and she said "nope" and hugged me. :)

As @Katrina71 will tell you, a hug says a whole lot about a person. ;)
