Do you use a grounding probe or titanium heater in your tanks?

Also if you dont use a grounding (earthing) probe, can you measure stray voltage and amperage of your tank and post your results?

I use plain glas heaters/thermostate

I have 8 tanks now which are on 5 seperate system. I only used a grounding pen on 1 system
Because i had issues with that system before.
Those issues were solves when removed 2 faulty heater an i installed an extra eathwire on all my wall sockets.

In have to measure the voltage and report back

Thank you. Im taking mine out. I also had a problem with my heaters. I now heat the room with an electric fan heater to keep the aquarium at 76 f. No more internal heaters.

I had two Eheim 300 watt heaters. Both were new and had put voltage and amperage into the water. .03 milliamps for one and .02 milliamps for the other. Both had made 2 volts or so. Even this small amount was enough to shock me. Apparently heaters shouldnt add any voltage in the water because they are a resistive load. I never knew that.

What problems did you see from the heaters? I noticed my montipora capricornis had faded a little and some of my fish had stopped eating. Mostly the biggest fish, a rabbit fish, but im not sure those were from the electricity problem because I noticed potassium was 360 ppm.

I experience no problem besides the shocks i got when doing maintenance and touching the frame. Since placement of the grounding pin this was no more an issue.

I also got rid of the defective heaters

Do you think this can be done without sand?

I Made some pictures while the lightfixture had to be removed for maintenance.
The EZ550reef has grown into a full reef again since the last rescape.
The new species that apparently would be "hard-to-keep corals" are also doing very well.
The system is so stable that the last measurement I took was already 2 months ago.
As an experienced aquarist you learn to recognize signals and you can sometimes sit back and enjoy cruising along, but you must always be aware that it does not turn into overconfidence or neglect.

This aquarium has been running without regular water changes since 2015. There was a time when it was thought impossible to do so. Nowadays it is generally accepted that we can do just fine without it . More and more manufacturers are now using it as an argument to promote a product. Waterchanges are great for emergency interventions. They are not ecological and if you have things well managed certainly not necessary as a regular maintenance method.
