When corals grows like weed, you need to find a purpose for the excess corals.

I just throw some frags in a 200l tank and did some experimenting ...

Now the corals has grown into real colonies i decide to go for butterflies..
After all the corals were sacrificial and they served a higher purpose.
They opened the door for a healthy "butterfly reef"...

This is now butterfly mania ...

How long have you had the butterflies? How quickly do they devour the SPS polyps or do they tend to leave them alone in favor of prepared foods?

quite some time now
less polyps, but nothing has been demolished

I imagine the SPS hide their polyps during the day to avoid being eaten. Do you see more aggressive polyp extension at night as a result? Please keep us informed of how this experiment plays out. It seems with large colonies, butterflies can be kept without completely destroying the ecosystem. I imagine this also depends on how well they accept prepared foods. Now I have a new goal: larger tank with large colonies so I can keep some butterflies.

At night i have other interests [emoji6]
I try to take a peek tonight..
Large colonies start with healthy corals
Healthy corals start with getting your act together and build a solid foundation for corals to thrive.

This is only 200 liters the water maintenance is supported by my maintank

Flow to sump is about 200-300liter/h

Triton = 4 bottles fixed dosing , external labtest , no active nutrients control (so far i know of)

DSR = seperate, or as you wish combined/fixed dosing.
You determine the dynamic for your own tank and take action yourself using the free calculator tool(s) i supply.
Only the essential elements are controlled, because i determined on my tanks most element don't need supplementation, at least not for the corals wellbeing.
Active nutrient and macro elements control is included in DSR.
We even have NO3/PO4 dosings to keep up with coral growth.

DSR is not seeking to mimic NSW, but targets coral growth with minimum money and effort spend.
Only than i think people will last longer into this hobby with many pitfalls. Many people quit the hobby, because of failure and tons of money spend. That way is unsustainable.
I don't chase numbers but watch the lang term developments of my tank.
I don't worry about the elevated/depleted (minor) elements unless proven valuable or cause decline.
It's all about learning, control, and sharing with the community.

I think this sums up the differrence in approach.
