Hey guys - so I may be going out on a limb here but thought I'd share...

I've noticed this area of my tank is getting this pinkish red coloring and I'm almost certain it's not corraline. Somebody suggested cyano. This is the only area I'm getting it in, is it possible that it's because of the heat coming out of my heater? Would heat contribute or result to cyano?

It's really difficult to tell since it's barely there. How long has your tank been running and has it gone through a diatom bloom yet?

I have the same issue. The cyno will pop up on one spot of the rocks. Almost the same fact spot as yours but no heater by mine.

I've had it up since 11/4/16. To be honest I've never experienced a diatom "bloom" but I've had brown algae come and go.. very small amounts and such. Nothing like the videos in YouTube where you see the tank over run by diatoms. I do weekly water changes and keep up on tank cleaning, no chemical dosing or anything extra. Very simple set up with no sump.

Perhaps it's a coincidence that we both have low flow there? I'm gonna add some more flow and random flow using a wave maker by hydor and see what happens
