I voted other.
I have 3 BTA's but they are super small and dont get bigger than 1" diameter in total. Two ive had for more than a year and they dont plump up at all. Ive asked for help but got nowhere with them.

RFA's:
easier than most corals
prettier than most corals
more color variety than most corals
don't move and are unaggressive unlike most anemones

Is there any reason not to have them?
I've had two RFAs move, and both passed away, moving to weird locations without light while their peers hung out happy as can be. I have one RFA as my only nem in an Evo, and it is HUGE, moves around sometimes and eats and poops like a pig, bit bossy with the other corals, but more like a bull in a china shop than being malicious.
IMG_20220509_072248682.jpg

This thing can make poop from one side of the Evo to the other.

Agreed about easy/pretty!

IME they don’t grow much bigger than A RFA. They also have essentially the same care as RFAs and IME don’t move as much as RFAs can. If I could have a garden of Mini Maxi’s I’d love it however they can come in quite expensive for a proper mini maxi. My only complaint with them would be them being ever so slightly more sticky than other small nems are.
can they touch each other like RFAs?

We're talking anemones and clownfish this week so today let's dial in on some anemone talk! Many of us love anemones. The way they look, the way they eat. The way they move in the water column, their colors and more. But not all anemones are suitable for a reef aquarium environment. Let's talk about this today!

What anemone have you found to be a good fit for a reef aquarium?

Do you currently have an anemone in your reef tank and if so which one?
(aiptasia don't count)

I voted 'other' because I don’t currently have one but would like to have a BTA! I had a beautiful one once before, but while I thought I had everything safe for him (covered all the powerheads with netting, etc.), I underestimated his vulnerability with the intake of my filter (canister) and he was gone the first night.:loudly-crying-face: I felt sooooo bad!! I actually cried cleaning out the filter the next day! It's been a while since then, and once I figure out a good way to make that safe, I plan to get another one for my clown pair.

To me that sounds more like a majano anemone, they’re almost as bad as aiptasia can be. Definitely get the same wrap.

I have watched mini maxis touch and not move for quite a while but never tested it in my own tank and instead holding tanks whilst working at an LFS.

Well the first time it split you had two originals so how did you decide which was the original? :thinking-face:
The split was quite a bit smaller for some reason, it was not like it was a 50/50 oddly. Or maybe it was and it was just not as puffy and full looking as the larger one

Oh, I completely forgot about my curlique nems! They came in on my gulf live rock. Some people flip out when they find them thinking they are aiptasia, but they have been model citizens, just picking up floating bits of food. I sometimes spot feed them when feeling generous!

I’m pretty sure that’s a cup coral. Looks like mine except for the color.

I have two mini max's that have been happy for years. I also have an RFA but he went to live on the back wall and is hard to see, but I love him. I also have a Condy which is very attractive & people love to look at him but he has gotten so large that I worry about him deciding to eat my fish. So far no one has gotten snared so maybe its no big deal. Once a week or two I will buy a fresh shrimp at the grocery store, cut it in chunks, and feed the nems directly. They love it.

Feed them
I was told that its not necessary to feed them directly. I broadcast feed the entire tank and other corals grab pieces and eat it up like the palythoas and duncan and zoa's. Figured the BTAs were being fed the same way. They dont move from where they have been for some time.

I've actually been fairly lucky with nems. 2 rock flower, 1 maxi mini (about 6") and 4 Rainbow BTA. I'd love to rehome 1-2 of the RBTA, but have never tried.

I have 23 RFA's. Love their colors! I've had no issue with any of them. One moved under a rock once and I changed the flow in back of the tank and he came back out front. This is just a few of them.

I started a new tank that only has GSP coral in it with few fish and when it matures would like BTA.

I don't think those are curlicue anemones. You can see that there is a skeleton underneath, so I think those are some sort of stony (maybe NPS) coral
