I got my first clam! I have been wanting one since I started my tank last April! I finally got one. It’s a Derasa clam and is 3.5 inches across. I hope it lives happily. I got some cool photos.

Congrats! I always wanted a Derasa giant clam but settled for a Teardrop instead. She’s now 6” long.

Like everything else, just keep stable params and she’ll reward you with superb color and growth.

Good luck with this clam. They are not difficult to keep as long as you give it good light and stable, high Ca and Alkalinity. They don't mind a little nutrient in the water. Just keep all the clam diseases away and take care of any parasitic snails in your tank.

Make sure you track your alk. That thing's gonna go through it like candy
This is my beauty and my Alk remains high, the growth shows Alkalinity should have gone down but it hasn’t - this guys going to be a year old in March :)

A top down of this guy is a must! They look so much better, especially under whites.

I got one last week as a test to see if my majestic has the taste for clams before I get in too deep with maxima/crocea. The derasa is my all time favorite of the true giant clams as it keeps the best coloration in terms of hippopus/gigas.

Sweet clams! I had one that was literally about 9 inches. As mentioned the amount of two part I was dosing was insane. The LFS thought I must have something wrong in my tank (like it was precipitating). Then when I traded it in (just got too big!) his eyes got huge, he thought I was exaggerating the size!

They are amazing animals. I haven't seen any clams available lately (getting back into the hobby). Where are you all looking for livestock these days?

I found mine in my LFS but some online retailers seem to have them over in the states (I’m in the UK and LFSs are much more available to us).
