I have wanted a Mata Tang for about 15 years or more and finally got one, did a little happy dance when I spotted him. The colour of him is mind boggling shades of blue, silver grey and yellow just crazy gorgeous!

I can't get a great photo because he is FAST but what a character, so friendly sooooooo greedy and not a single fight with its tank mate a Mimic Tang the two are inseparable. He finished quarantine and is in a grow out tank before going into thirteen hundred litre system. Not put him in yet as my Powder Blue can be a **** and is rather larger....but not for long!

Anyone else have one or similar beast size Tang?

Beautiful fish, congrats!!

Beautiful tang congrats! I have a large red sea sailfin who has been with me years. He is a mean, greedy tank hog who will not let my other fish out to swim. However he has survived three tanks, all my up and downs with them, and I feel like we are war buddies. I owe him the opportunity to live out his days as king of the tank.

I have a Desjardinii too, wonderful character he is boss of the big tank but a calm leader, which is great because he keeps the crazy Powder Blue in check! Lol

Nice score! I love Mata's, I thought about getting one for my latest tank but had to go with my dream tang. Achilles/ Goldrim hybrid he is the king of the tank but all 5 of my tangs get along great.

That is a stunning Tang, what a beautiful creature!

Beautiful mata! Already showing some really nice coloration! How big is yours?

I have 2 myself. Funny thing is that I didn't intend on adding either one. I received mine from an online vendor while trying to order a different species on two separate occasions. I'm actually glad that things worked out the way they did. Mine are around 12" and 10". I have a few other large tangs with them including; Naso unicornis, Paracanthurus hepatus, Acanthurus blochii, A. leucocheilus, and A. nigricauda (the latter 2 are still small at around 4"). I would say the most territorial of the group is my 8" P. hepatus. The others are very easy going save for the occasional chase around the pool.

Going to attempt adding a pic, but this is my first attempt at it here on Reef2Reef, so if it doesn't show up, I'll have to try something else...
