Hey guys. So tank is 6 months old. Cycled with live stock. Among them was 2 green chromis. Great okay fast forward 6 months and one just kept picking at the other chromis. So after talking with my lfs and digging on the inter web. I was told pick up a few more. Today I did just that. After acclimating them I let them in. As soon as they dropped in. The aggressor starting being aggressive. He wound down a little bit and isn’t as aggressive. But I have one who won’t leave the corner. After reading about them it seems people have a lot of bad things to say. So contemplating just try to bring them all back for some store credit or something. I read typically when you remove the aggressor another takes its place.

A couple things:

1. There’s actually several species commonly sold as chromis, and this may account for some of the differences in peoples experience. Do you happen to know the exact species name?

2. With a lot of them… this seems to just how they are. One explanation I’ve seen is that their instincts are that the shoal needs to be strong, so they drive out any members who are perceived to be weak.

3. They do better with very regular feeding. If you’re not already, try feeding them 3x a day.

/I got some fairly recently. They promptly killed one but since then the group seems to have stabilized (tempting fate writing this….). IME they are a very lively fish that look nice under the lights and their active swimming seems to encourage other fish in the tank to hang out in the water column more.

I started with 7 green Chromis 3 years ago and they’ve grown together from 1/2” to 1.5”. They have a pecking order but aren’t overly aggressive towards each other.

Having plenty of hiding places might be key. My tank is full of large coral heads. So each Chromis has their own nook to hangout in.

My guess is if the environment is OK, they’ll eventually form a stable social structure. But you might lose 1 or 2 as they assert their social standing.

I just worry about the stress park tgen get ick lol

I’ve had 3 for the last year and a half. They definitely have a pecking order and they will kill the weak one eventually.
Yeah so now it’s like they all out for blood. Just keeps chasing one another. May just try to bring all but 1 back or something

Chromis often squabble and fight with each other often causing damage to each other and also susceptible to uronema. Please post a video of the chromis you have on hand.
